How are we filling the salary cap?

Post: # 1405417Post FQF »

Assuming that the AFL rules require us to pay at least 95% of the salary cap, now that another 650k player has departed, who is filling the cap?

Roo is reportedly on less
Steven is on a contract that was agreed upon before he would demand much pay
Vast majority of our list are either young kids on not much, or old guys on not much.

Enlighten me?

Could we be front ending now with a view to shopping aggressively in 2016?

Well they were probably paying 110% this year so its a drop of over a million dollars. they could also give jack a new contract.

I'd love to tie up Jack right now for long term. If Sydney can give Buddy 9 years at that age, I see no reason why we can't give Jack an offer of 5 years on good pay. We need him.

The next few years see fantastic business opportunities for young players.

Give the remainder to Riewoldt and Montagna as a bonus for the next few years of suffering.
That way we will have room under the cap to pay for imports and players who improve.
It will train the host of second rate players that they can only expect second rate pay.

When our next window opens we don't want to have players already being overpaid like in the late naughties.
We need to reserve salary cap space so that when the team is competetive again we can go out and recruit the necessary improvement from other clubs.
Just like Hawthorn has over recent years.

We don't need any more Luke Balls and Nick Riewoldts eating all the spare space under the salary cap again.

I was going to start the same threat

Where the f*** is all the money going

Dal
Goddard
Kosi
Gram
Mac
Blake
Milne

Surely TDL isn't up for a pay rise?

Already asked this

Shot down?!

I simply cannot believe we are paying 95% of what Hawthorn is paying..... It just doesn't add up

Our list is worth 75% of theirs at best .... Now Dal is no longer on the list

Enlighten me?
I think the AFL is helping us with this issue.

or asking the AFL how do they spend 95% of the cap with a list of kids and diminishing numbers of experienced players.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

If a dispensation is approved it means the AFL has agreed to exempt the Saints from having to spend 95%. Effectively it's like a loan without any money having changed hands if that makes sense.

Also next year we may not have anyone on the veterens list !
so lenny and roo's money will not be split between the salary cap and Veteran's list like it was this year .

Good point. Any money we pay should be in the cap.

How about we offer Billy Longer 600k next year, send him to the PSD and give him 100k for the next two years?

Considering the new list, it is amazing to think we are filling the cap unless Joey is still being paid humongous wages for being a front-runner in 2008-2011.

Who knows.

if it is the case then the former regime can go f*** themselves

Why does it matter? We have to pay the money anyway. I think people forget we were probably paying closer to 112% this year and can drop to 95% next year.

How does that work though?

We cheated this season however next season is entirely different?

Or by that logic/regulation, we pay another 95 and then 98 and it is all square?
