No Friday Nights according to 3AW
Oh, what a surprise, St Kilda will not get many if any Friday Night games next year according to 3AW tonight.
So what has changed?
In 2009 and 2010 the majority of our home games were Sunday twilight games.
We never get many big ticket games regardless of where we are on the ladder.
The poorer clubs are always demoted to the bad time slots, this has been the way of the AFL for as long as I remember.
The AFL does not really want equalization, it wants an Animal Farm version of it.
All clubs are equal but some are more equal than others.
The perfect season for the AFL is all the rich clubs in the eight plus the expansion clubs and the poor clubs making up the numbers.
This maximizes revenues for the AFL which is their number one priority.
The AFL will always prop up the poorer clubs because it wants the 18 teams but it doesn't really want them all to be competitive.

Well if our fans turned up to games once upon a time we would get Friday night games.

ANZAC day falls on a Friday?
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
There's one way to force the AFL into giving us prime time. That's win lots of games.
Hopefully after this pain that's what we'll be doing.
i can understand why we are not flavour of the month.

You mean win a lot of games like in 2009 and 2010 where the majority of our home games were Sunday Twilight.
We could win every game and would still get a dud draw because we are not a side with 50000 members.

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
I've wondered how many people would turn up to a Collingwood v GWS Sunday Twilight game at the MCG in the middle of winter. And will it ever be part of the FIXture? (I already know that the answer to the 2nd part is NO) !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Turned off after we copped it in the ring in the first 5 minutes of the show yet again. Apparently our major sponsor has abandoned us now.

About triple our crowd. I reckon we need to stop thinking poor us and join the club like I should do and go to games like I may do.

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
So we expect to finish bottom 3 next year and this is news?
Of course we won't get any, or 1 at the most, who wants to watch the bottom sides on a friday night?
How many did GWS, Gold Coast and WBD have this year?
How many did we have 3 maybe?

2011 we had 6 Friday nights plus a Thursday night game.SinCitySainter wrote:You mean win a lot of games like in 2009 and 2010 where the majority of our home games were Sunday Twilight.
We could win every game and would still get a dud draw because we are not a side with 50000 members.

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
Sunday Twilight games are for television only. I cannot think of any supporter that would chose to go at this time.
-Parents with school children want to prepare the kids for the week
- Workers want to organise themselves for the week
- Young people are partied out and need their sleep
- Retirees are just scared to go out at night
The last thing I want (and everyone I have EVER spoken to) is to get home at 9pm on a Sunday night and have to face 5 full days of work / school. Easier to watch it on TV (assuming you can afford Foxtel ... or traded your membership for it).
Also people need to remember that the Saints do not offer 3 and 5 game memberships. Maybe they are scared that numbers will drop off, I am not sure, but Collingwood et all have significant numbers of this type of member which boosts their numbers.
It is self perpetuating problem, bad game time slots, leads to less interest, resulting in lower crowds and worse time slots. I am not even going to rant about playing interstate (eg if you play each week in Melbourne, you get in a routine of going and therefore go more often --- leading to higher average crowds – EG Sell games away at your peril).

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
I'm sick to death of our fans whinging about poor slots.
Pull your fingers out of your Beaumaris backsides and get to the games.
Our turnouts are garbage and we deserve all we get by way of timeslots.
In the all-talk-no-action stakes, we're world champions. Sick of it.
And if we get Sunday night slots, deal with it. Keeps your weekend free for other things.

Re: No Friday Nights according to 3AW
Your premise is incorrect, across 2010-11 (the years after we played in GF's the times tied for most home games was Friday night and Saturday night.SinCitySainter wrote:You mean win a lot of games like in 2009 and 2010 where the majority of our home games were Sunday Twilight.

In 3rd place was Sunday twilight with 4, only 2 more than home games played on a Monday night.
Sure, we aren't rewarded aswell as the big clubs and are banished quicker, but to say we aren't rewarded is a fallacy.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Why would anyone pay $82 for a three game membership when the gate price is $60?
