I know Clarko doesn't have an Eddy, Jobes or Mqalter to hide and I'd argue while we had as good as top 6 as Hawks ... across the board Clarko is working with more class....

Re: To every one that craps on about Lyon...
Ross chose to pick Eddy, Jones, McQualter....
He had Gwilt, Steven, Amitage, Jarryn Geary, Stanley, Lynch...... Maguire, Hudghton, Cousins (oops)
But yes, he coaches very well

Re: To every one that craps on about Lyon...
Ross Lyon's teams have played in finals every year since 2008 and only missed finals in his first senior coaching year in 2007.
In seven years as coach he has achieved a 64.3% win rate (168 games) including a 50% win rate in 14 finals.
So in seven years his teams have reached:
four prelims
three grand finals including the draw and a replay

Of course Clarko is better. The hawks won a game they were odds on favourite to win by about a 2 metres when Varcoe missed. It makes sense. So if RL wins tonight he then better again because he beat a side that they should beat. I dont get it at all.

Do you mean traded in already established players?
Mitchell & Hodge were already at the club, Franklin & Roughhead were drafted when he was appointed, I don't think he would have had much say there.
Clarkson is a good coach but he has largely gone the top up route the same as Lyon, if he doesn't win a flag this year you would have to say that he has failed.
In 2007 Hawthorn said they were 'expecting 3 flags in the next 5 years…
2008 - only poor kicking from Geelong and a series of rushed behinds (forcing a rule change) won them a flag.
They have basically choked since then…
Half the side last night were ring-ins, hardly building a list.
Their long term list is in pretty average shape, just like ours. If they fail to win a flag this year, the era will largely be seen as a failure.
Hale, Lake, Gibson, Burgoyne, Guerra, Lewis, Sewell, MItchell, Franklin… Probably all gone in the next year, how will they look without those (mostly recycled) players in the team?
The biggest difference between Lyon at St Kilda and Clarkson at Hawthorn is that only one of them had a board and list manger keeping contracts and salary cap in order… I'm sure Lyon would have loved to add better talent than Polo, Gamble, Pattinson, Dawson, Peake… but our salary cap was in such bad shape we couldn't bring any decent players in.
Let's face it, neither have built a strong list through the draft yet. Both are good coaches handed good lists.

Re: To every one that craps on about Lyon...
That's a nice attempt at re-writing history but if we stick to facts Clarko has built his list from the ground up and developed the whole package including finding ways to win Grand Finals against arguably won of the greatest teams of all time. Not only has he done that but he's managed to rejuvenate his list with players that suit his game plans that are also constantly being tweaked. For the Record I'm not a Lyon Basher, in actual fact if Freo makes it to the big dance I am not sure who I will barrack for...it will be one tough game that is for sure.dragit wrote:Built his own list?SainterK wrote:To be fair, he built his own list...kosifantutti wrote: Based on what?

Re: To every one that craps on about Lyon...
What part of my post is an attempt to re-write history?
Both coaches have had good lists to begin with, both have recruited lots of mature talent... Clarkson clearly having a lot more money to work with due to good salary cap management.
Both have superstars earnt by previous coaching/recruiting.
Both have played in a similar number of prelims, grand finals... Clarkson was lucky in 2008, Lyon was probably unlucky in 2009... There's not much between them.
What have I re-written cairnsman?

Meanwhile at Simpleton Stadium
Chris Scott isn't a coaches asshole !
All he does is sit there, arms crossed, chewing gum except for shaking his head &
squealing like a stuck pig when a clearly obvious free kick is paid against the Cats.
No idea what to do when the game goes against them.
He's a dumbass average coach of an excellent skilled team.
Well stick that 5 point loss Scott ..... as far up as it will go.
Maybe that will put a smile on your face haha !!!!
