The Hamill and Gehrig trades - that's what is needed!

Maybe we need a gun coach to coax trades like the above that helped us as much off field as on field.

Definitely feel we need to make at least a masterstroke or 2 in the next couple of years to really get us going again. That's what worries me really.

We are going to have to be pretty proactive about this..

Agreed! Just for membership numbers alone.

We'll see very soon if we have the right people running the joint!

Exactly what is needed. We just need to avoid the Blighty bit.

Just a year or two early for players like that IMO. The year we got those 2 we also got Rooy and Kosi and then the next year we got everyone else on the list nearly. Next year we will only get one good pick. We need 2 or 3 good draft picks for it to all work. By then i would think we may have that new coach.

So my plan is in ice until end of 2105?

i agree, we need a hammil/gehrig type trade to happen as well as draft picks for our next tilt at a premiership. we can learn from the post alves era (ie TIm Watson and blight era) to climb back up, not looking likely until 2015 until we are climbing again me thinks.

Im not sure on him to be honest. Unfair to compare him to RL who is just about the best in the business but im worried about his match day coaching. In his defence we dont have a great side but Im not sure its as bad as we are going. He has a year to show the young kids are coming on and then the club will either sign him for 2 more or get rid of him. By the way I expect us to be a poorer side next year and that wont be SW fault.

I hope it doesn't take THAT long SP.

Well we should have plenty of room in our salary cap for some key strikes.

Clear out the old guard,
Maybe trade a couple for some good draft picks.
Bottom out (don't mention the "T" word).
Grab some really good young picks making the most of our ladder position.
Then use our spare salary cap space to grab 3 up and coming superstars (targeting emerging Victorian stars playing interstate).
Add the right support mechanisms.

Then bring slowly to boil in 2017.

I agree Plugger. We are still probably in the downward spiral into next year. When we see some light at the end of the tunnel then I feel we should start to be proactive. You want the players to come to club for right reasons not the wrong reasons.

We have been really unlucky with injuries this year. Not only did we not get a FB we lost Gram and Goddard two defenders that were best on ground or close in GFs. Fisher, Dempster, Simpkin,Gwilt and Gilbert have all battled injury and struggled to string games. We have been feeling more pain than probably deserved but will reload. I don't expect us to bottom out for years still.

Good recruiting makes good teams and I'm liking several recruits so far.
