Channel 7 would be reluctant to have two Victorian teams as the Good Friday appeal chews up all the air time but that's only in Melbourne.
Surely a clash of two non-Victorian teams shown live on 7 interstate and live on Fox Footy would be the way to go.

Re: Good Friday footy
No footy on Good Friday is ridiculous. It's the most boring public holiday of the year. What is the difference between playing on Good Friday compared to Easter Sunday / Monday?
North Melbourne made a big push for Good Friday footy a few years back but failed.
In the past, Channel 7 have been against it clashing with the Good Friday Appeal, but if they worked that into the footy coverage, they'd probably bring in a lot more cash.

Re: Good Friday footy
I have my own faith which is very important to me, that being said it wouldn't bother me if it was played on Friday because I personally put a stronger emphasis on celebrating the meaning behind it a lot more often than a ritual once a year...
It would bother other people though, perhaps when there is a new CEO there will be a stronger push for it.

Re: Good Friday footy
I agree with SP that only AD is against it. before he was CEO of the AFL we played every year on good friday. I couldnt give a stuff if we play or not but im unsure boredom is a reason to play. Im bored every second Wednesday night because we only play cards twice a month. I think we should play footy then.

Re: Good Friday footy
I don't understand why its such a big deal?
People jump up and down about it every year.
I have no issues with no Footy on Good Friday.

Re: Good Friday footy
If they can play a Grand final on "Yom Kippur" the Holiest day of the year for the Jewish people.
Then they can play a game on "good friday".
Otherwise isn't that religious bias or something? ( wink)

Not sure where the easter eggs come in... I think it's another pagan rip-off.
Anyway, chocolate and holidays... I'm happy to celebrate that, not too fussed about footy or no.

Re: Good Friday footy
Yeah well I'm not religious at all, but I was in hobart recently and was reminded of a bygone era when all the shops shut and city became a virtual ghost town on saturday arvo and sunday. Not saying I want to go back to that, but it's nice to still have just a brief little quiet space when shops are shut and (mostly) everyone is taking a break from trying to make money.

Re: Good Friday footy
People are allowed out on good friday. Its as if we cant go out and we are stuck at home with nothing to do. Arrange a BBQ with mates. Barrack for the kids at the RCH. Get on the piss or the lemonade. Its agreat day to relax with a few beers with family and friends. There is footy Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Reckon that is a fair bit.
Re: Good Friday footy
No I have a BBQ at my joint. Your most welcome mate. Bring the fish. I will supply the grog but i have read some of your posts and it doesnt seem you are a VB man so you better bring your own strange beer.markp wrote:Are you free friday, mate?plugger66 wrote:Arrange a BBQ with mates

Re: Good Friday footy
Melbourne stubbies are fine... not tried vb since they went back to the original recipe, but if it's in a stubby or otherwise served in glass and it's the correct temperature it should be alright.
