Its isnt based on champion data? He always get a lot of points in that. You can do what you want with stats.

Dwayne Russell needs a copy of that list so he can work out how many and what type of players are missing each week. Seems we only had 33% of our elite players and the Swans had 40% of theirs

Absurd.

Dempster not in the top 10% of his position, but was AA.

Milne not in the top 10% of small forwards - please.

Saad only rated as average, though has nearly kicked 2 goals per game.

Hickey, Newnes, Ledger, Dunnell have barely played at the level yet.

MacEvoy murdered in the ruck most of the year, yet considered elite.

Absurd.

Joke article, obviously written by a stats nerd..

Sam Fisher and Lenny Hayes would still be considered elite in afl circles and in opposition coaches planning.

If it ranks them for there position, it's ludicrous to say milne isn't in the elite. All australian forward pocket for the last 2 years.... also Jarrod Waite and Nathan Bock are listed as elite forwards, come on

Based on supercoach / dreamteam stats and perception to me.

To be honest we only have one elite player for postion last year and that was Milne, and he still is the best forward pocket player in the AFL.

You can argue the others but for example going from there own rating system was Dal or Lenny in the top 10% of all players in the midfield last year?? I dont think so, so they are listed were they should be.

But Big Mac, lol elite and in the top 10% or within the best top 4 ruckmen in the league. I dont think so.

Roo same story. In his day yes, last year no.

What crap. It shows that stats lie more than anything. the only thing it does is make losing Cripps easier- he dropped down our amount of poor players.

Mark LeCras is the best forward pocket in the AFL.

Hayes, Fisher, Riewoldt, Dal have all been elite in periods of their careers...

Interesting to me is that all 4 of the guys listed on the 'below average' section for us have good upside potential.... and in fact have all (perhaps not so much Newnes) already suggested in their NAB Cup performances that they will be significant improvers next year.

OTOH based on this, Roberton, TDL, Dunnell and Ledger will be playing for their careers this year.

It's not useless, but since they haven't given us context, we can't assess how useful it is. It's a maths test answer that show no workings. Just saying 'detailed statistical analysis' isn't evidence of anything by itself.

Lenny and Dal must have been close to the borderline. They were pretty much neck and neck in most inside mid statistical categories. I think goals was the only area where Dal was significantly ahead. Lenny was a fair way in front in tackles. Lenny probably turned over the ball more (AFL.com.au has taken down a lot of their stats). It's not really surprising that Lenny didn't make it though. His stats don't reflect his character or his usefulness (possession bias?).

What's really surprising is they actually included genuine defensive players for a change. They still clearly weight way too strongly in favour of attacking players (Reilly, Scotland over Dempster), but it's a start. Their ranking points have never included spoils, which has always meant that key defenders have zero chance of being ranked. At least a few made it here, although it looks suspiciously like they've cherry picked the ones who got shortlisted for AA in recent years.

They clearly haven't fixed their anti-small forward bias though. No Milne, no Betts. Guys who kick goals from nowhere should not be underrated, but somehow are (posession bias?). They somehow got Rioli, which really emphasises how amazing he is. They didn't have Jetta though. A mid who kicks goals from nowhere from anywhere on the ground - yeah - I'd hate to have one of them.

It doesn't pass the smells test. I agree with whoever it was above that says it smells like supercoach plus bias.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

I believe its done over the last two years which probably doesn't favour Lenny.

It clearly says it is based on Champion Data stats, and that is all it is, stats. So it wasn't a joke, but often your posts are.

Swap McEvoy and Lenny on the list and I wouldn't have any great argument with the list.

Was Beau on the 'poor' list

The lists demonstrate just how irrelevant the article was... Maybe relevant to DT nerds?!

Any knowledgable footy player, coach, fan, umpire, commentator would laugh at list... Such is the quality of the joke...

McEvoy might get more points, but He ain't in our best 10....

No, he was on the below average list
Don't reckon any right minded person could argue with that on last years output

Had nothing to do with our best 10, it was Champion Data's rating of players in their position based on last years stats.
Why don't you read the article before going off half cocked?
