Today is the rumour. Dont think much will happen in the end which is probably fair enough considering many clubs have done what Melbourne did and the priorty pick is basically gone now. Expect a couple of admin people suspended for a few months and smallish fine for the club, Say 50k. That could all be suspended sentances anyway.

Mark Stevens and Mark Robinson are saying there will NOT be an announcement about this today. so it will drag as least until next week.

$500,000 fine, Connolly suspended for 12 months, Bailey for 3. So much for coaches who do their best to manipulate results never working in the game again...
No players sanctioned. No draft penalties.
Nice one AFL, another embarrasing slap on the wrist, hot on the heels of the Adelaide draft mainpulating non-decision.
Lucky that the WADA and ASADA have taken the doping issue out of their hands.
How spewing must Carlton be?

Doesnt seem a slap on the wrist. 500k fine is huge and why would a player get sanctioned. A lot on here said they shouldnt get any penalty because other clubs have also done it so can you explain how the AFL can get penalty right? Some say no penalty and some say loss of picks or points.

$500k fine !
Does that just mean Melbourne will get $500k less from the Afl this year .

$500,000 for a couple of number one draft picks.
Reckon that's pretty good value in today's market.
Tanking remains an attractive option.

farce really

surely it will come under 'bringing the game into disrepute' and 'no official findings of tanking'

you cant get done for deliberately losing games to benefit for drafts picks and not lose any future draft picks as the penalty and only cop a fine that they will get help with paying anyway.....

....surely :?

I will again ask you the same question as the other guy. It seems it is 50/ 50 to whether there should be a penalty or not so how can any penalty be right in 50% of people. To mean it seems fair as I have no doubt other clubs and maybe even us have done it. The best thing that has happened is the priority pick is gone. That should help a fair bit.

if they tanked
you lose picks

if you didnt tank
you dont lose picks

if youre unsure whether they tanked or not you dont go putting out some half asses fine and no loss of picks, you keep going with the inquiry

they either tanked...or they didnt

They tank to get Scully. They lose Scully. In return they they get what, two first round draft picks in compensation? All for $500,000. Sounds like a reasonable deal to me. Just get a few Scotch old boys to foot the bill and you're looking like a genius.

I have no idea how Mclaughlin puts his pants on in the morning let alone takes care of these things. Maybe he should go back to booking the bands. Oh wait...

Other clubs have tanked and probably us but we were lucky no one came out and said something. It may seem like a small penalty but 500k for Melbourne may be as goos as losing draft picks. I actually wouldnt have penalised them at all because most clubs have done it.

But 50% say there shouldnt be a penalty even if they did tank because other clubs have done it. Still cant see how 100% of people can be happy. Pat Smith say no penalty and Caroline Wilson says a big penalty.

Yes in your opinion but not probably 50%. Making farce bigger doesnt make it a bigger farce. Anyway i couldnt care about Melbourne because I worry to much about our club.

They got found guilty and got fined but the penalty should have been related to the benefit they directly received from tanking. The should have been banned from the next draft. It doesn't make sense. Total joke from the AFL as usual.
