once were Saints ..

Post: # 1288780Post Zed »

couldnt sleep last night and started thinking about the the Saints players traded away, cut or walked out on us over the past 20 years.

the criteria was they need to have been with the Saints in the last 20 years (1993 - 2012) .. and then left to play senior AFL at another club . After making an assumption that Goddard and Cripps will actually play senior footy next year, I put together the following team.

FF: Lappin, Lockett, OBrien
HF: Kickett, Hall, Nicky Winmar
C: Mcadam, Ball, Rice
HB: Carr, D Wakelin, Smith
FB: S.Wakelin, Shanahan, J Begley
R: Everitt, Goddard, Fletcher
Int: Dawson, Ackland, Cripps, Atkinson

Are there any ommissions that deserve to be in that team ?

Devo Devonport?

I don't remember Sziller going anywhere. (Or was it Richmond?)

Anyway, it's a pretty strong team you come up with there. Incredibly well balanced.

I need to see the team of the same period of our imports -- I'll be too sad if I'm not reminded of the other side of our Ledger.

Apparently Roy Cazaly could play a bit. He was a 180cm ruckman so he must have done something right!

Yes James Begley - included in the OP team.

Take out Ackland from the OP and include Guerra, Maguire, Black, or Hutchings - or have them all on an extended I/C bench.

Out : begley,Atkinson , Acland,, Cripps
In: guerra, black, Maguire, Sziller

Grant was one of my favourites but left him out as I've added criteria that must have played minimum 20 games for other club after leaving. Assuming Goddard will achieve this barring injury.

Fair call, stronger side. David Grant was one of my favs as well, what I can remember of him anyway.

That would be an exclusive club Dr. S. How many others were saints, "twice"? Jayson Daniels comes to mind. Ross Smith came back after a stint in WA. Any others?
