left our great club after 200 games because......blah blah blah blah!!!!! ( no one cares anymore )

Re: Learn 2 words BJ
I said it before -I think he is realising the scale of his decision now. He was pretty damning about the bombers if anything, said they were inexperienced and young. I think his pride sent him there and now he's realised he's there for good. He's probably right, he needs the footy to start so he can get his head around it.

Yep...I heard that too...avid wrote:Did he just say today that he was looking for more of a leadership role than he had at St Kilda??
Next in line for captain not good enough??
Very foolish thing to say.
He is either being poorly managed or ignoring the advice of his management.
It'd be refreshing to hear some honesty in football. I'd rather he just say that the security of a 4 year deal was too hard to resist. If he had issues at St Kilda then let them be known so we can all move on.
We know why Ablett left Geelong...It wasn't about leadership, challenges or success it was about the money.
We will see more and more free agents do exactly the same thing as the years pass. Do we have to be subjected to lies every time?

Good chance he would have been captaining the Saints next year had he stayed.Spinner wrote:He left for more midfield time and to become more of a leader.
One reason - less $ over 3 years VS more $ over 4 years.

We will never know his true reasons. No one not might ever know, except BJ himself, and only he will know that.SainterK wrote:Maybe he didn't want to captain from the half forward line?
I will go with a combination of:
1. more years
2. more money
3. more mid-field time
4. more young talent
Rate these on a scale of 1 to 4 (1 being the most important, 4 the least)!

Sorry K, I don't buy the 'more midfield time' excuse.SainterK wrote:Maybe he didn't want to captain from the half forward line?
Are we really suggesting that the coaching panel (not just Watters) deliberately didn't play Goddard in the midfield when they knew he was a better option there than who they currently were playing there?
Seriously?
They deliberately went with an inferior grouping just to annoy Goddard?
I don't think so.
Rightly or wrongly they assessed his abilities and those he was up against in the midfield and made the decision that he was more valuable in other positions.
And if we follow through the argument that 'more midfield time' was the deciding factor in him leaving then had we matched the offer from Essendon he would have put himself into the draft as it wasn't about 'the money'?
If that truly was the case then why did we hear in the media the story about us matching the '4 years' and not the 'more midfield time'?
IMHO Goddard left us becasue he got a far superior offer from Essendon.
More dollars each season - maybe $200,000 more per season
'4 season contract rather than our offer of 3.
It's quite simple really, and I don't blame him for taking the Essendon offer.
All the rest, again IMHO, is pure 'spin' trying to substantiate the decision to leave for a far better deal without coming off looking like a 'mercenary'.
At least he has done so with some dignity, not 'bagging' the Club.

what more leadership did he want he probably would have been captain in 2013. Now he will just be in the leadership group just like he was at the saints.
wish he would just shut up now

(Though he played awfully well in there v the Dogs and Pies when he finally got his chance)
I am simply saying that he wants to be a midfielder, and we didn't find room for him in there.
Dons have and will.
I also remind you....that we invited him to test the market, and the flow on effect from that is if someone promised him the world, that was always the risk.

Re: Learn 2 words BJ
K, you have mentioned this at least 20 times on here and BF. Give it a rest. He was played plenty of times in the midfield at The Saints. He dominated in the finals in 2010 but was found wanting when asked to defend as well as attack by Scotty. He had ample opportunities to perform in the midfield at OUR club. It is a cop out by him, and anyone else, to suggest he didn't get the opportunities at St Kilda in the midfield. And even if he thinks he didn't STIFF. Team first.SainterK wrote:Maybe he didn't want to captain from the half forward line?
He felt unwanted and left the club. Simple as that. If he was honest with himself, he would have realised he had something to prove to Scott, all the supporters, and himself, that he could play the role required by coach and match commitee. He failed and jumped ship.
He took the easy option. Sick of the excuses. He wasn't playing well enough to demand the kind of contract he wanted.

Goddard has shown that it's all about him.
Money, time and wants to play midfield. What about the team?
