Re: So Still No Key Defender
There are a few good key defenders in the draft around the 15-30 mark like Tanner Smith, so hopefully we can grab one of them. Also would have to pick up a mature ager such as Joel Tippett to at least have someone to fill in there next year.

Re: So Still No Key Defender
Not certain about the draft a 18 year old isn't likely to solve any immediate problems, after list lodgement 1 on October 31 any delisted player becomes a free agent, there is a period between then and the draft where they can go to a club of their choise, I wouln't be surprised if the recruiters look over all the delisted players looking for a stop gap key defender like a Will Young from Adelaide or a Bryce Retzlaff from Brisbane.

Was Retzlaff delisted?on the outer wrote:Not certain about the draft a 18 year old isn't likely to solve any immediate problems, after list lodgement 1 on October 31 any delisted player becomes a free agent, there is a period between then and the draft where they can go to a club of their choise, I wouln't be surprised if the recruiters look over all the delisted players looking for a stop gap key defender like a Will Young from Adelaide or a Bryce Retzlaff from Brisbane.

Re: So Still No Key Defender
Who needs Brown ? - whoever we play would be worrying about our quick, high marking forward line - with athletic, strong marking talls Lee, Riewoldt and Stanley... and with Hickey drifting forward -that's 10 forward 50 marks guaranteed (at least on paper, anyway) - plus we'll be applying plenty of forward pressure with all the speedsters in there.
We just need to bolster our midfield further with draft picks 25 and 26 - and with our developing young midfielders and our dangerous forwards will hopefully do the rest.
If our midfield matches the top teams or is thereabouts - we should end up outscoring them.

Why not look in house?
Obviously there is now no denying we are in a full blown rebuild- throw Simpkin to the wolves for a year at FB.
For mine- he's hands down our most exciting kid. 20 gamer plays like a 200 gamer, super composed.
Getting in some late 20's journeyman aint gonna
a. get us a flag or
b. help long term
And as for the too small arguement, sure he might get ragdolled occasionally- but no worse than Dawson. (and thats the 2012 Dawson, not the scawny hawks kid)
plus he seems to have 10 times the footy smarts as Zac.

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.
I know how Dal feels.

Re: So Still No Key Defender
The best form of defence is attack.
We will potentially have the best forward line next year (speed, marking power, forward pressure)- we just need our midfield to at least break even with the top teams and we will beat them.
We should concentrate on improving our midfield if anything - by developing the young midfielders and using picks 25 and 26 for some pacy midfielders.
Maybe Trent Dennis-Lane can be used in a midfield role too ?

Really we havent got anywhere near the best forward line in the AFL. We just have a lot of them.

Re: So Still No Key Defender
p66 - read carefully !!
I said potentially we do - as we will have marking power, speed, defensive forward pressure.
We just need our midfield not to drop off - and improve if possible (p.25 and p 26 could help too) - and we'll be fine.

I dont think we potentially have the best forward line either.

I blame the Weagles.
Total gluttons. They are as bad as the Filth to deal with.
I really hope we get a chance to screw them over in a future trade period.

Re: So Still No Key Defender
We only have 4 worthwhile picks in the upcoming draft, all in the 2nd round. Unless we use the 4th round pick for a young ruckman to develop, or something like that, we will be out of the draft very quickly.
We are going to have to get a large defender or two, and improve our midfield stocks with those four 2nd round picks.

I think we will spend 25/26 on kids (mids) and then 44 on Hartigan + promote Ferguson

And I dont blame the Eagles at all. They never had Brown on the table, we tried to put him there. It would have been the same as another club trying to trade one of our defenders we did'nt want to trade.

Our forward line didn't do too bad last year - we kicked some high scores - and I think it's going to improve further as we won't be pumping it just to Riewoldt - plus Stanley and Roo will also play a bigger role (if they are not injured next year).

Re: So Still No Key Defender
Despite our key forward (Roo) being injured for a big part of this year and with Stanley also missing -our forward line did okay.
We now have Lee to help out too.
I think with the defensive pressure, marking power and the combined speed/athelticism of our six forwards - it's potentially the best forward line - but that's just my opinion (and I will stick to it ).
So what I'm saying is - use p25 and 26 on mids and forget the big defensive FB as our forwards will do the job (so we just need our mids to do well or improve if anything - that's where our focus should be - and not on the big FB).

But they have ABSOLUTELY NO USE for him. Why would they want to hold on to him? They are just so stubborn.plugger66 wrote:Sainternist wrote:I blame the Weagles.
