Latest free agency info

Note 1st round and end of 1st round.
Given BJ's age, I'm thinking we may get end of 1st round.

Given his age? A free agent has to be around 26 to be a free agent. He isnt that much older.

Re: Latest free agency info
Sorry what I meant was that if he was younger, say 26, then there would be a higher chance of getting the early 1st round pick rather than end of 1st round.plugger66 wrote:saintspremiers wrote:http://m.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/sai ... 26lli.html

I can see a right royal shafting coming our way.
I hope the Saints admin are lobbying heavily to get us pick 13... End of 1st round will be pick 24!

Re: Latest free agency info
Seeing as though the first part of the formula is the contract size, then I would say we would be looking at a pretty good....
Goddard, if cloke stays a pie, will be the highest profile FA, and we would be pretty stiff to get an over 20 pick for him...

Re: Latest free agency info
To me if he leaves for money and goes somewhere else we had better get the first round 13 or I don't think I can like the guy anymore. The way Ball left still s***s me and I can't stand looking at the little piece of s*** anymore. BJ goes and we get screwed I hate the guy. Loyalty is fleeting but some players as a sign of good will try to obtain the best result for their team. Ball didn't and if BJ walks and not even to the club he followed as a kid he is a turd too.
Re: Latest free agency info
firstly gringo, our compo has nothing to do with BJ so itwould be the AFL we should be upset at. With the contract offers suggested there is no way BJ could be seen as anything but a tier one. Age should not be problem as he would be one of the younger ones seeking a move. Still think that the fact the pick relies on where we finished is a little silly. We dropped down the ladder a little more and the compo all of a sudden becomes a top 10 pick. It's not like we can bank it also like the GWS/GC poaching.

I know rationally that it's not his fault but the fact that he walks and we get screwed makes the whole thing a little hard to swallow. If someone compensates you it is easier to take.

Re: Latest free agency info
27 years old, Former number 1 pick, 200 games, Nearly a Norm Smith medallist, worth a reported 700-850k a season and the AFL will tell us he is not tier 1
That would be absolute crap !

Re: Latest free agency info
Agree, surely even if the offer to leave was the same money $600K (I assume he'll be offered more), but over 4 years, he'd be classified as band 1.paddy wrote:Seeing as though the first part of the formula is the contract size, then I would say we would be looking at a pretty good....

Re: Latest free agency info
Anyone putting any faith at all in an AFL policy that has Adrian Anderson's grubby paws over it is living in la la land.
We always get screwed by City Hall & the jungle drums are now beating that suggests to me that the Goddard compensation will be the latest rodgering.

The AFL said recently in an article on their website that both Goddard and Cloke would be band 1 compo under FA rules.

Certain to go from what I have heard. Likely announced next Tuesday.
Assuming we don't pick up anyone our selves we will get a round 1 compensation pick.

My bet is the Saints match the offer. Then trade him.

Re: Latest free agency info
That would be a hell of a risky strategy....if we do match the offer of let's say $850K p.a. and Essendon / Freo / Geelong can't agree on the trade and then decide not to go ahead with it, then we're stuck with paying him those huge dollars for the next 3 or 4 years...BackFromUSA wrote:My bet is the Saints match the offer. That would be a crazy move, we either have a couple of days to hang off his ankles offering $600k for 4 years and hope he still wants in or let him go and use the pick on youth.Watts the Buzz wrote:That would be a hell of a risky strategy....if we do match the offer of let's say $850K p.a. and Essendon / Freo / Geelong can't agree on the trade and then decide not to go ahead with it, then we're stuck with paying him those huge dollars for the next 3 or 4 years...BackFromUSA wrote:My bet is the Saints match the offer. Re: Latest free agency info
I will have more than one tear when he goes, he is part of the furniture. When my kids play the AFL 2012 game he's always the name getting called out. It will freak me out hearing his name at the Dons. Laidley was on yesterdays SEN coverage and he sounded convincing when he said that the club and his teammates genuinely had no clear idea of which way he would go but reiterated the line of not paying overs for any one player.Ralphy wrote:Demetriou has already come out and said Goddard is tear 1.
