Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
Was reported on SEN today that St. Kilda has put a new offer to BJ & is less than that offered few weeks ago.
BJ was at the Fed. square & when approached was directed to speak to his Manager, who said that he or BJ has got nothing to add.
My gut feeling is that he will definately go as the free market starts on Monday the 01st of Oct. So far the histroy says that the longer the contract talks go the higher the chances of player leaving, except for Cloke who will sign with Pies any moment now after they had a discussion today.
I say let BJ go & we should be able to get some decent picks with any compensation.

Managers just stir the pot to try and make the clubs jump.

I agree, but the point is, if BJ wanted to stay he would have done it earlier. It all comes down to Monday the 01st Oct & lots of rumbling at Windy hill.mr six o'clock wrote:Manager's are always beacon's of the truth !

Re: Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
Why do we all assume it's BJ that is making the process difficult?
Given Ball received $600K for virtually nothing back in the mid naughties, why is $650K unreasonable?

Just because we overpaid Ball doesnt mean we should overpay BJ. What has BJ done in the last 2 years to make him our highest paid player and it seems by a clear way?
Re: Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
It seems super unlikely we would reduce our offer, unless we are just expecting/wanting him to go....
Be interesting if it turns out that saints told him they dont want him, and are just helping him push his market value up, as a "no hard feelings gesture"
(doubt it, but would be an interesting twist)

Re: Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
If its true then I am happy that the club has reduced the offer given his apparent decline in form and output.
It is crazy that a player approaching 28, playing for a team that misses the finals and who is averaging 24 possessions a game can be newly contracted to receive more than 500,000 a year

Re: Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
Could be possible that we have offered an extra year but at a lower level for that last year hence the average per year has gone down?

Re: Apparently we have reduced the offer to BJ
It was a back-ended contract. He didn't receive $660K every year.maverick wrote:Given Ball received $600K for virtually nothing back in the mid naughties, why is $650K unreasonable?
Luke Ball's mid naughties where he did 'virtually nothing'
2nd B&F in 2004.
1st B&F in 2005.
Captain 2006.
And on to 2009 where he was best afield in a GF but 'couldn't spread' so the '600K' contract was widely publicised (lesser payments in previous years ignored) so that some dumb **** could say that he did 'virtually nothing' for St Kilda.

It's funny how history has a way of changing as time passes ... Luke ball BOG in the 2009 g/f ... Reckon Gram might have something to say bout that .. Ball was solid in the G/F not BOG !

Yes but Gram's arse didn't get splinters from sitting on the bench for most of second half;st_Trav_ofWA wrote:It's funny how history has a way of changing as time passes ... Luke ball BOG in the 2009 g/f ... Reckon Gram might have something to say bout that .. Ball was solid in the G/F not BOG !
Pretty sureBall's first half was pretty good, added to that Geelong sat on Hayes in the second half meaning our 2 key drivers from first half were out of action!

It wasn't back ended that much.
How was 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009?
I never said he did nothing for St Kilda, just asked what he did for the $600K, that makes BJ unworthy of getting slightly more?

Would have him back in the team or as an assistant coach in a heartbeat.
