What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
The Hawks have plenty of left footers. Mixes it up nicely, similar to good cricket sides with lots of left handed batsman.
The Hawks balance is awesome. Players get balanced prior to kicking very quickly, improving accuracy and length of kick.
They tend to model their kicking on the slingshot/hook style of Buddy which increases distance off only a few steps.
These are the main technical aspects I observed being at the game last night.
Given our issues with kicking, I thought its worthy of discussion for us moving forward.

They've got a lot of X-factor players who can play forward which is pretty handy. You stop a couple another one bob's up.

Because we gave him a more senior job. Which in turn is probably a big part of why Lyon left.mr six o'clock wrote:Yes , but if he is so good why did he leave ?8856brother wrote:Who put their list together?

In Pelchin we trust! Anyone hear Nathan Burks interview the other day. Talked about Pelchan and how good he is and how the list manager is as if not more important than the senior coach these days.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating (as they say) and Chris Pelchin will prove to be the right fit by results. I personally feel more optimistic and positive about our club than I've done in years. (even 2009!) With patience and support this team of coach and list manager can bring us exciting times.

Looking at the Hawks last night, and the Swans today, we will not win a premiership without a major rejig/ rebuild of the midfield, which is one-paced and just not hard enough as a unit. Other than that, tall defenders, ruck, tall mobile forwards..all required.

Career development would be one of the reasons. He heads up the entire football department at the club and sits above the coach. He reports directly to the board.mr six o'clock wrote:Yes , but if he is so good why did he leave ?8856brother wrote:Who put their list together?

A saints contingent are dining with the young GC ruck next week. A big defender has also been earmarked, don't know whom or where from (current afl listed or from another comp) as his identity is being very tightly held by a certain few.
All really positive.

Let's see what improvements Pelchen can make with the list over the next couple of months. His season starts now...

Re: What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
Elshaugh and Ahmeet Bains are our recruiting guys not Pelchen but I'm sure he has a say in what and who we want. He apparently had major issues with Kennet who hated him after Kennet told the media that no Premiership player will ever get sacked and Pelchen went about slashing the list and rebuilding straight afterwards. A Hawks supporting mate who has some friends at the club said he is a hard arse and copped heaps for guys like Kennedy a legends son and grandson and Mc Glynn etc all getting cut. I have friends who are closely related to Kennett and even they say he would be an arsehole to work with and have more sympathy for Pelchen than him.
Re: What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
my understanding is that bains is in the meetings and can have opinions, but has no official role with or responsibility for recruitment. it ultimately rests with pelchen as head of the footy department, and elshaugh is the delegated man on the spot.gringo wrote:Elshaugh and Ahmeet Bains are our recruiting guys not Pelchen but I'm sure he has a say in what and who we want.

Re: What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
It's not really important wether they are left footers, we need to recurit good kickers.
Does anybody remember how we let Brent Guerra get to Hawthorn? I reckon we could have found a spot for him on our half back line, he is an excellent kick.

I think Bains is actually the list manager so would have the fun job of crunching numbers and is probably delegated to by the footy department who are headed by Pelchen, but Elshaugh is the man in charge of recruiting so would be answerable to the head of the footy department also. Overall the role is probably big enough that Pelchen doesn't do hands on recruiting like at Hawthorn but probably dictates the kinds of attributes he sees as necessary to improve our list.

No. On-field had nothing to do with it. GT and Guerra had a run in and GT showed him the door.
Guerra had off -field issues at PA and the Saints.
The Hawks tamed him. We let him slip.

Hawthorn did that, they worked out his best position, that was beyond Bundy and Co.
Regardless of why he got the sarse

It's funny that you miss a Premiership by two straight kicks and everything you are doing is wrong. Finey was on this morning suggesting they are all lazy outside runners and opportunists that need the team to be up to do anything right. Franklin converts 2 goals and everything they are doing is incredible and sets a bench mark. It sounds eerily familiar to me.

Re: What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
Well, to be fair, how long have we been attacked for having a shocking club culture and this ultimately boiling down to disappointing finals performances?
If the media and public at large want to get stuck in to 'the family club' then I, for one, am all for it.

Re: What we need: Re The Mighty Hawks
We've already got plenty of classy left footers - Jones, Gilbert....
Is it just me or does Sam Mitchell seem to prefer kicking on his left. Pretty sure he's a right footer. Maybe they've got a rule that says you can only kick on your left.
