Sean Dempster is a gun
One of the guys who was pretty much at the crossroads a couple of years ago was Sean Dempster after he did his knee. He had his detractors on the forum, and plenty of them (with some justification), but has he turned it around big time! Got to be a good bet for B&F 2012 and must come close to All Australian. I love the way he plays and he's added another dimension to his game with his run out of the back line. He's no longer just a dour negating defender but a creative half back that sets up a lot of our plays.
He's a got a heart as big as himself and ALWAYS goes when it's his turn - if you're talking about future captains, he may not have the profile that some of the other potential candidates have but he has ALL of the attributes. Take a bow Sean Dempster! I might be saying the same thing about Geary next year as well - maybe the change of coach has done these guys the world of good.

Re: Sean Dempster is a gun
Sean has one thing that Jarryn does not - height - 8cms of it in fact.
When Sean came from Sydney, the reason he was let go had to do with his disposal. It seems to have improved. Had a kick, forty metres out, directly in front, on the run, been one metre to the left in the last game of 2009, five minutes into the last quarter, he might also have been remembered for something else. Lot of "might have beens" in that match though.

Re: Sean Dempster is a gun
Probably the most improved player in the league over the last 4 years. I never saw his value early on but like Blake just has so many role he can play. I called it completely wrong with sean.

Re: Sean Dempster is a gun
Was always a Demspter fan. When he left the Swans many on their boards were sad to see him go as they saw a lot of upside in him.
Lyon assigned him particular roles and he did them well, despite his knee injury.
Watters has asigned him a more offensive role and has freed him up to go or his marks, and he has thrived.
At almost 29 he is probably peaking now. But as many insiders say that he is just about the most professional player at the club, he should be capable of generating at least several like seasons now of this standard.
2012 BACKLINE
Gilbert also rediscovered his mojo this year....a point that many seem to have overlooked.
Geary maintained his improvement from last season when he took over from Baker.
For our backline we just need;
* Gwilt to get fully over his knee and get his accurate kicking back.
* A true full back....otherwise Sam Fisher must play the role.
* An attacking player to generate drive. Our backline was a bit stodgey this year compared to the best teams. Too many of the players turned the ball over with poor kicks, which gave easy goals to them. This needs to be rectified in 2013.

Re: Sean Dempster is a gun
I've noticed he's been playing the Sam Fisher role for the last two months, and he's done it very well
Fisher is a great mark, and that's what Dempster has become. He also kicks a bit further than Sam

So consistent....nice to see him getting some love.
Also nice to hear him give Scott some credit for new aspects of his game.
You can still learn in your late twenties.
