Some poster's seem to blame everything on him. Yes, i think he is a very good coach, i was gutted when he left, but he did alot for our cub.


EG: Whiskers: "5 years in the VFL can do that to you". Implying that Ross didnt give him the require time in the seniors? Maybe Jack wasnt ready, maybe the time he has spent in the VFL has helped his development, does anyone ever think that.

Also SP starting a thread about a clearly fake Ross Lyon account. The name calling, just settle down. It isint hard to see that it is not Ross.

He had moved on already in his head, so it was best he did.

Crappy exit, retiring players who didn't want to be retired, and doing a no show at his meeting at the club in the knowledge that the club was crawling with journos expecting his re-signing.

Apart from that, gave effort for his tenure, came close...but at the end of the day, he chose to walk away from something that he didn't really ever finish.

How did he nearly kill Geary, Steven and Stanley's career?
Geary started under Ross, played man games.
Steven started under Ross and got great development in the VFl, he may not have been ready.
Stanley started under Ross, But what has Stanley shown, apart from a few marks and a couple of goals. He has height and speed but he hasnt been outstanding in the VFL and games in the AFL. If he hasnt now, how was he in the past.


Yeah, he could of dealt with the Baker situation better. Hudghton, well, Dawson was great in 2009 and Hudghton had many injuries throughout the year. I think it is good that Ross showed trust in his players. (Dawson)

Yep unless you win a flag you atre the same as every other dud coach. Does that work for players as well because I dont really feel like calling Havs, Lenny, Burkie and so on just as good as Windbanks and Godsell.

McQualter is struggling to get a game up north.

Mini's zero turnovers in a team that got smashed on the rebound cost him his spot. McKenna's got enough VFL level trash in Iles and Stanley outperforming his annointed teenagers.

Mini hate is so lame. He wasn't an A-grader, he wasn't a B-grader, but he worked his butt off in the forward line chasing harrassing and tackling. He won a lot of ground level ball, rarely turned over the ball and set up a lot of teammates for scores. After he got cut from the team he could have sulked, but instead he nearly won the Sandy B+F in less than half a season.

If only the rest of our players had his ticker.

Here we go...that faarken argument again....What came first - the chicken or the egg? What's the foundation for building a team capable of winning or even contending premierships. The blueprint is to develop and mould an elite group of players (preferably with lots of class and top ten draft picks) and get them to grow and improve together and play a few years of finals football. Then manage the group as they head towards that window of opportunity and work damn hard as a club to keep that group of players together. I don't credit Ross Farken Lyon with any of that!!! You can't just get any coach -no matter how good he is - and expect him to work miracles with any team can you?? Lyon was handed the blueprint...the foundation was sound, the material was on site, anyway you cut it...doesn't matter how close those last few beams and rafters came to fitting together...they just didn't quite fit...he f***ed up!!

Come on Plugger, you've got to admit this was a pretty clever response to you're previous post.


Look, Ross Lyon, prick of a bloke or not, he's a bloody good football coach.

No doubt whatsoever in my mind that we would have won more games this year with him still in charge.

That's not a slight on Watters at all though. RL is a (now) very experienced coach who would have had 5 years in charge of the side. Watters, on the other hand, is a rookie coach in only his first year, and he's had to come in and get to know his players and has only just begun to fashion this side into his preferred mold. We will be better off in 5 years time with Watters at the helm now than with RL still around, IMO.

I don't know RL personally, so I don't assume to know whether he's a prick or not, but one thing I'll say, he has the best tactical mind of any coach I've ever seen coach the club.
