Think he looks right at home in senior footy.

Hmm, he isn't out of his depth. But I don't think he's taken to senior footy as well as Milera, Saad or Dunell.

had a decent quarter in the third, but made plenty of mistakes and disappeared in the last (along with the rest). definitely promising but he's not near a walk-up start just yet.

Really? I'm all for giving him more opportunities, but there wasn't much in his performance today. He's not alone.

No gut running back the other way (towards defence) when he hasn't got the ball

Thought he did fairly well; clearance work was good and his kicking was much improved. He was hard done by with the maggots a couple of times. Not a bad game at all and he can buildon it with more opportunities.

Not bad by any stretch - but his 2nd efforts are lacking big time.

Simpkin and Siposs appear to be the Saints best draftees from the 2010 draft.

the jury is out on the rest......

He will be good he looked a little like he was over thinking. Gets in dangerous positions and puts in the effort.

Looks to have the smarts and the skills, but not the tank at this stage. He also looks quite short. He was doubled up gasping for oxygen when Armitage was gut running.

I really like the way he moves. He looks very composed, but yes he did disappear at times and he needs to work on his second efforts.

Simpkin was drafted in 2008. He was elevated in 2010. 'Drafting' elevations is a completely superficial innovation by the AFL.

Ledger looked okay out there today. Not amazing, but he's a teenager with less than a handful of games. I think a lot of people have overreacted to his non-selection. The main thing he's got going against him is Hayes, Dal, BJ, Joey, Armo, Jack, etc, etc. If Tom played for a lesser team, he'd have played near every game this year. His disposal is very good for an in and under type. Even if his endurance isn't amazing, a lot of onballers play as burst players. Luke Ball springs to mind.

I think he'll be fine. Cripps game was really exciting. We've got at least three guys who can play out of that draft. That's pretty good considering the draft was raided by GC and we only had two picks in the top-50 and wasted one on Crocker.

I like him, really good that he can run full pace and kick either side of his body with penetration , need more strength so he can start to break some of those tackles

Strength and fitness, but that will (hopefully) come with age. Last week, about half a dozen failed to run out the game - literally walking to next contest or pointing to someone else to pick up their man. This week, we had about the same number. Three years ago, we were the fittest team in the AFL - we aren't now.

Positives & Negatives:

POSITIVE; He can find the ball

NEGATIVE; He can't get away with the same things he can get away with at vfl level, but he'll learn that

!!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

and how long has armitage been in the system to Ledger?

its only this year that armitage has been played every game and now looks like he will be and is becoming a player.

give the guy a chance! he is only young and has played very few games. its a big step up between vfl and afl

If Ledger's tank is a problem, would playing on a tennis court,ie: Sandringham every second week be good for his development? I think not!

Only consecutive games will tell whether he is up to AFL. He has a lot going for him and looked quite good for so few games. There is a huge difference in game intensity between Sandy and AFL and it takes time to adjust. Clearly more work needed to develop a bigger tank. He just couldn't make it to a few contests, or run-on attacks.

Another good pre-season will help a lot. He's worth persevering with.

People were wondering why he wasn't getting an opportunity. That's all. Simple as that. No one was demanding anything.

Your post = SS development squad. :P

He's bulked up, he's a stocky little guy now. Looks like joey ate too many pies. He is a classic play off the pack outside mid, just has a great ability to stand in the spot the ball is going to go- I actually thought he'd do more contested stuff. He looks dangerous even when the ball isn't in his possession. I'm one who didn't get their hopes too high after the Irishman failed to live up to our hopes, but I like the look of him. Interesting article today in the Age on Sam Mitchell and they say one paced small mids are up against it in the AFL, he looks to have some of the tools to make it to me and look forward to seeing more of him.
