"Umpire that made mistake won't be dropped"
Herald Sun this arvo...
http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/umpire ... 6444778230
"FIELD umpire Dean Margetts will retain his place this week despite the AFL umpires department ruling his game-saving free kick
to Collingwood defender Harry O'Brien was a mistake.
Umpires director Jeff Gieschen said today it was an isolated mistake in an otherwise solid performance.
"We deemed it to be an unwarranted free kick to O'Brien. It was not a chop of the arms or interfering with the arms because there
was no contact to the arms,'' Gieschen said.
"If anything, Milne did turn and run with the flight of the ball with his eyes on his opponent, but the contact he made was very
minimal. There was not enough contact from the front to constitute a free kick.''
My 2 cents...O'Brien fluffed the mark mainly because Big Milney put the fear into him. And the umpire took a GUESS at
what had happened.
uh-oh...just saw this at the end of another thread.

Re: "Umpire that made mistake won't be dropped"
That's the way the AFL works; Z E R O accountability.
I don't blame umpires for us losing the game, but I will say that we got done over. But you don't criticise the AFL if you don't want trouble these days, that's been made very clear. They are too powerful, and that's always the danger with a socialist-shaped structure; if the top of the pyramid is rotten then there's little that can be done to eliminate it, short of all out revolution. They know they are safe as houses now and they're abusing their position.
Sounds hypocritical when I've railed about silly conspiracy theories as recently as 10 minutes ago, but while I don't think the AFL is out to get us specifically or favours the Pies as such, I think there is a bit of reciprocal backscratching going on and the clubs need to band together to lessen the power of the AFL.

Agree re AFL powers... it's an inbred little industry with
junckets for mates. Just look at Dimwit already announcing McGlaughlin as the heir apparent.... while McGlaighlins brother lives off AFL media gigs with 7 and teeth whitening endorsements. Complete farce

Re: "Umpire that made mistake won't be dropped"
Everyone in football knows the actual truth that it was a deplorable mistake in an otherwise lamentable performance.Umpires director Jeff Gieschen said today it was an isolated mistake in an otherwise solid performance.
What Gieschen says is simply a bald-faced lie and fools no-one.

If he's going to go around deciding who will play finals and who won't then he's got to be held accountable ... like everyone else is in this world.plugger66 wrote:bigcarl wrote:Everyone in football knows the actual truth that it was a deplorable mistake in an otherwise lamentable performance.Umpires director Jeff Gieschen said today it was an isolated mistake in an otherwise solid performance.

So you drop an umpire on one error? So round 20 has not one umpire umpiring.

Re: "Umpire that made mistake won't be dropped"
Because they haven't got the balls to send the umpires back to the Managatang Thirds?
So what is considered a bad enough performance to drop an umpire?
He could do the same thing again next week and know they won't do anything about it.

The umpire should be dropped (along with Jack Steven).

So it is only mistakes in the last minute of close games that count. That should be good when GC play hawthorn. The umps can make 50 mistakes because it doesnt matter.

Wasn't another mistake persay, more a desire to impose himself on the game....IMO....which if it was my department, I'd sit him out to learn it's not about you.
