Clint Jones just kick the goal...
Was at the game tonight right in front of Jones running into the open goal and bang nothing just sets up Milney for a holding the ball , at this level on your left side running into an open goal you have to nail it . !!!
Noticed he was running with Black and this guy was a star in close for the Lions ....
Love his effort but get nervous everytime he gets the ball and lost my voice singing out kick the bloody thing as blokes were leading and he was like a deer in headlights panicking with the ball in his hands !!
Good for a hard tag but not really sure for anything else if we have guys like Dunell coming through ...?

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
i agree jones has to spend a heap of time learning to kick.... if he could get that R Havey chip going he would be a true asset to the club. man we miss that R Harvey special.

I'm still not convinced he was sore v North, maybe Watters is deciding if he will persist with him and if his strengths outweigh his weaknesses.
He never was so freaked to attack, not sure what has spooked him so much.

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
I don't think he was matched up on Black for much more than a couple of stoppages. Black spent a lot of time head to head with Lenny and went forward a lot in the second half. I think Jones was matched more on Rich, but it didn't look like a hard tag. I think Scotty's moving us away from the hard tags.
Clint was literally the difference in clearances (he had 12, we were +12), he had 15 contested possessions (-2 as a team) and 9 tackes (+13). Yes, his kicking is bad and he sometimes handballs into trouble. He was still one of our best tonight.

Clint tackled brilliantly and played his guts out. You don't win close games like tonight without a team effort. We need CJ at his best in the clinches against Sydneyvacuous space wrote:I don't think he was matched up on Black for much more than a couple of stoppages. Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
Clint would be a better player if he knew when he had to kick.
Yes he is instructed to give it off... But he seems blinkered by that and refuses to kick when it's required.

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
I sincerely believe that this is a team directive - that CJ is not to kick - when he has no choice you see him kick - but if anyone is within 5-10 mtrs he goes the handball option - you also see our players run rowards him when he gets it - not on the spread - but I totally agree - that was one time when any kick would have been better than that dinky handpass - Schneider was streaming clear - so a high CJ special would have probably gone either to him on the run - bounced so 13 could have run on to it - been a mark to the Brisbane defender or Out on the Full - 50/50 - his handpass to Milne was an obvious 0/100
If he has been instructed not to kick this is very bad - any instrucyion that stops a player playing natural football is ..... it makes them second guess themselves and I would rather see him dropped than playing like a deer in the headlights!!!

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
He was good tonight around the clearance but, it's not up to professional standards of AFL football that a player can not kick 40m in front of goal without anyone around him. An example, if there's an opportunity of kicking it 50m down the wing with to a free player or hand balling it to a player in close vicinity with 3 opposition players around him, he'll probably still handball.

+ 1 to both posters. Was arguably BOG last night, even after allowing for his one or two stray kicks.Scollop wrote:Clint tackled brilliantly and played his guts out. 12 clearances (that's amazing!) + the pressure he applied and the play he created helped to get us over the line.

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
He had a really good game, but I was amazed when he decided not to take that shot. He would have grown up kicking footballs around; there's no good reason for any player not to have a ping in that situation.

Clint was very good tonight. Sure, he should have taken that shot for goal, but at least he knows his limitations.

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
i highly doubt he has been told not to kick, i think its more the fact he cant kick.

Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
Clint is one of my favourite players ..... but my grandmother had more chance of kicking that goal than Clint ... and Clint knows he cant kick to save himself (he has two non preferred sides for kicking .... ). Clint is an in and under, tagging, handball specialist thorugh and through
Re: Clint Jones just kick the goal...
He would be an All Australian if he could kick well...but unfortunately he can't!
