I think stk players thought he was still a team mate, we kicked it to him 12 times uncontested...

He played very well indeed, good on him..... Least we had will Johnson. Astute.

One of the best Saints on the ground tonight.

I miss him a lot. Happy to see him do well (preferably against other teams.)

He did murder us didnt he? Was one of my favourite players for us and that spoil at training on JB was one of the best I have seen. Glad he got his career back on track - wish it wasnt against us though.

Yeah, fantastic player, great character. Hope he goes on to have even greater success form here. He and Kosi seemed to enjoy chatting out there last night.

Agree plugs. Goose was finished. Still in hindsight Im happy we got
Rid of him. Zac Dawson's loss is a much bigger issue.

Shame we got Simpkin though eh Big Note? he's a dud isn't he?

Going on premierships won... You figure it out..

Here's one,

Went on recruiting campaigns in Tassie in late 50's early/mid 60's and netted
Baldock, Howell, Stewart, Lawrence, Breen

Here's another
Chose a good coach in 2006

Here's another
Chose a good coach in 2011

Many mistakes (like a few clubs) with regard to list management and player development.
Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney have succeeded in those areas

Richmond, Freo, Melbourne, Stk, Bris, WB

Have made some big mistakes

So it seems clubs that win flags dont make mistakes and clubs that dont do. If only i had your hindsight. You know what we make mistakes but so does Geelong and Collingwood. Anyway my point is you love pointing them out. Now did you think it was a mistake letting Goose go a few years ago?

That's pretty much it,

Clubs are measure on premiership success.... It's what every club sets out to try and achieve!!!

I would have thought that was pretty obvious

Part two
I posted in 2009
It was a MASSIVE mistake to get rid of X.Clarke, L.Ball, M.Maguire.... And it cost the fabric of the club

They were players who were leaders around the club, and super humans.... Not sure the benefits of not retaining them
We gained
A.Lovett (indirectly).... Well known moron
J.Smith...... Similar to X was injury riddled, with more critical injuries... And an average character
W.Johnson..... Nothing special

We got
1 game and 1 possession out of that three....vs 94 games

The net gain/loss indicates we were the big losers....is that even debated

I said in 2009 it was a huge mistake, not in hindsight.... And could easily have been made look stupid in time, what I've seen since I am even stronger in my view....

The 5 mistakes that hurt in 2009 that cost us multiple premierships IMO
1-not retaining L.Ball 2010 or gaining compensation for him leaving
2-trading X.Clarke, M.Maguire, for picks 63 and 91.... Any real point
3-not selecting BC for ZERO
4-trading a FRP for A.Lovett, a known moron with a poor attitude
5-The lack of development of D.Armitage

The more I read the more i love you. If only the club could embrace your skills. By the way letting Goose and Clarke go even in hindsight werent mistakes.

What benefits came of it??? What were the gains

They were outstanding characters at stk, why was it good to show them the door.....
More a mistake was the recruiting 2008/09,..... The worst recruiting performance

We have no key back, and Goose is one

X.Clarke was injured again, happens, a knee... Happened to Hayes last season

Will Johnson is an average footballer and cannot hold a candle to Maguire, Jesse Smith can barely walk now from an injury pre selection to stk...X.Clarke is playing footy again.

What was the benefit of Axing either, besides opening list room up... To bring in untrieds

Salary cap but that doesnt matter. We should have kept them and played them in the seconds. Who cares what money they were taking on the cap. Then you could write a thread saying why didnt we get rid of these list cloggers who are earning way to much money. Hey lets get rid of Hayes and Milne. But why it only opens up room on the list to bring in untrieds.

nailed it except BC, i guess we'll agree to disagree on that/

other than that excellent post.

some of the list management decisions were very ordinary. alot from ross. i heard ross delisted miles and told him, they were delisting him because they though cahill was going to be a better player. it took cahill another 2-3 months to get his papers stamped, after a pre season incident.

ross really didnt like miles, mainly because he was a private school kid.

Cousins was past it at Richmond and was still on the gear and still evading the drug testers.

However some wanted a known drug offender influencing the young players at the club.

Very strange that people turn a blind eye to illegal drugs for their spurious arguments.

Big fan of Goose and we clearly made an error in moving him on.... I really enjoy watching him succeed at the Lions, seems a legitimately good fellow and clearly works his ass off...

Is exactly what we need down back right now to tag team with Simpkin and release Chips..

Oh well..

Proof is in the pudding on his performance at the tigers... Down play it if you want, he did well... That's the evidence we have...

He didn't succeed very well when avoiding the testers, he was urine tested 100 times in 100 weeks at the tigers and underwent 20 hair tests....bthey were compulsory tests for him to stay AFL Registered...

That argument has been done to death, as far as influencing kids, I believe people are responsible for there own actions.... Maybe he would have smacked Jack in the mouth in NZ.

WHO knows, what I do know... If he came to StK and didnt do the right thing.... I would have backed out leadership team who I rate as the equal best in the AFL to deal with him... Sacking and or sanctions... No biggie, we sacked Lovett and was worth plenty more and was a big sacrifice

I would NOT have traded or used a worthy pick to secure him... He was a risk injury/character wise...so I would not have given anything for him.... But FREE yeah, why not....

Maguire, Ball, X

In my mind a mistake.... At the time, and definitely now.... Even Clark.

So just so I have the facts right

1/ That the club was wrong to let a number of injury riddled players go.

2/ At the same time evidently the club was wrong for not playing more youth

3/ I had thought that our defense was incredibly good in the years we made the GF. Evidently this was a delusion.

4/ That chasing Lovett was bad, but chasing Cousins was good and somehow different
