It's about winning your one on one contest

So many lost their direct contests tonight.

Before we freak out and call for more taggers back into the side as the solution, let's keep things simple.

Teach the guys that they are in control of winning against their own opponent, one contest at a time....instead of looking to someone else to do it for them?

Dempster shut out Harvey, that should be enough as far as nullifying goes surely?

Don't think it's too much to expect others to beat their own opponents?

With Zones and defensive presses over the ground have our players lost the art of 1 on 1?

I was thinking that LennyLTW.

Seem to have forgotten how to beat their opponents.

That's isn't a criticism of the previous GP, just an observation that there are some teething problems with the new one.

No other team needs 2 taggers, neither should we.

We took out one opposition player tonight, that should be enough.

Watters chose not to employ a hard tag on Watson, who has been superb. Instead he let Dal Santo take him on and while Watson won plenty of the ball, Dal Santo was more effective. Similarly, Brent Stanton found himself with Leigh Montagna playing beside him, not tagging but shadowing.

''At some points in your career I think you need to have the responsibility to take on a good player. That was a job that needed to be done for both of those players, with defensive intent,'' said Watters.
