$500,000 on Ballantyne to kick first goal

Less than 5 minutes before the start of the West coast vs Fremantle game today, a bet of half a million dollars was placed on Ballantyne to kick the first goal of the game at would have been odds of at least 15/1. I heard this on the SEN as the commentator announced it. The commentators and the others in the box couldn't believe the amount of money placed on such a bet.

Ballantyne had the first shot of the game, but missed.

A few minutes later another Freo player ran into goal and had a shot from 40 meters out on the run. He missed - it hit the post.

Soon after, Ballantyne received a pass from a team-mate and slotted the first goal of the game.

If they have that kind of money to use then good on them. I would love to be in a position to be able to bet that much on the footy. (Im not a huge betting man though)

They often get their facts mixed up when reporting these 'bets'.

If its remotely true, it was probably a $500k payout on a multi. That can happen.
