How costly was the Port Loss??

Post: # 1219118Post BigMart »

Port played well... But 1/6 says Port is gonna be bottom 4 which means a lot of teams looking for finals spots have 4 points on us...

Really it should have been an easy win........Is it going to come back to bite us???

Unexpected win against The Blues goes a fair way to evening things up I reckon. Win over Eagles this week and we are square after losing what we shouldn't have to The Dockers.

The win against Carlton looked impressive because we were 3/3

If we were 5/1 it may well have been 50/50 considering we beat them late last season.... We may well be sitting top two..

No good dwelling now I suppose... But should put away s*** teams

I think the Freo loss was more significant.

I actually think Port were very decent that night, and we didn't play that bad as the ladder now might suggest. The Freo game however, utterly dominated every facet of the game apart from the most important, the scoreboard.

We win the next two it puts us back in the ball park. Sunday is such a massive game for us, it's pretty much the season if we're going to be taken seriously. Really hard to get a gauge on us, Carlton/Bulldogs games elite, Hawthorn game mediocre,Freo game extraordinary inability to capitilise,Melbourne game deplorable.

Time to make a stand in this freako season

Very costly! Meant we started a week behind in terms of preparation.

It would hardly signal the end of our season if we lose to the ladder leaders interstate. But it would put a lot of pressure on the next few games leading in to the bye... Sydney, Richmond, GC and Adelaide.... and suggests that the best we can hope for is to battle it out for a top 8 spot

Win this Sunday and it signifies that our season has well and truly sparked alight... and there is potential for a top 4 finish...

I'm not too fussed about the Port loss as we played like crap. If we won we would have stole it. The Fremantle loss on the other hand is an absolute disgrace where incompetent umpiring changed the result of the match. Both could end up very costly though

I suspect Port Adelaide spent the whole pre-season in meticulous preparation for round one against us. Conversely, perhaps we should have done the same against them.

I think I fear Freo more than the Coasters this year because of RL. The Dockers played such a well drilled game against us.

So what might Worsfold have learned from Lyon's tactics? Hopefully not much.

Why?

We played an intraclub.

Essendon didn't and are doing much better than is this season.

It will be costly if we miss the top 4 by one game.

It will be costly if we miss the top 8 by one game.

And it will be costly if we miss a Victorian final by one game.

Otherwise it will mean nothing.

In fact. If we miss the 8 by more than one game anyway it could mean we get a lower draft pick so it could be a good thing.

If indeed it is to prove costly it will can only be judged as such at the end of the season and not after Round 7.

Exactly. Always looking for excuses. It was a shocking game as proved by how Port are now. Freo was bad as well. We have played 3 good games, WB, Hawks and Blues.

The Port and Freo games where both decided by one sided umpiring. The Freo game was blatant cheating. The Port game wasnt much better.

Disagree Clarky.

Pre-seasons are planned to the minute.

Completely different list, Saints had older guys like Dal, Joey, Fisher and others scheduled for their first hitout.

Most of our stars had 2 or 3 games which was planned anyway. They played in WA instead of Wangaratta. They then played another game and had a week off. We lost because we played poorly and that wasnt due to the umpires or missing the Wangaratta game IMO. It was just a poor performance. The game was actually shocking.

Port was up and about at the time and we played poorly. Notwithstanding that we have been up and down since, which I thought would be the case at the start of the year, I reckon we probably got more out of a loss as it forced us to address a number of issues like our contested work ect.

These type of results always occur in the 1st round eg Adelaide beat Hawthorn over there in the 1st round last year and look how their seasons both turned out.

I have no idea how we will go on Sunday but Mike Sheehan of all people has tipped us so we're basically cactus.

They were in on it as well. They also hate us as well as the umpires and the AFL.
