Countdown to Rooey's 500

Post: # 1216076Post creepypolar »

Nick Riewoldt is now officially only 13 goals away from magical 500. Best luck to him.

Also, I think that maybe he should be allowed to kick the 500 first and then if the coach wants to move him to CHB. I think 500 is a reward he deserves for his work to the cause of the Saint Kilda Football Club.

That is cruel, but pretty funny! (Except to those who are ultra-sensitive, or in denial about it  )

Couple random stats that i found whilst looking into his career marks!!

Nick Riewoldt is currently sitting on 1950 marks in his career, which puts him 8th on all time list. StKilda's very own Stewart Loewe holds record with 2503.

Nick Riewoldt also sits 3rd overall with 94 games where he has taken 10 or more marks in a game. Stewart Loewe (97 games) & Essendons Gary Dempsey (95) are only ones who have done it more times.

That actually makes Stewie Loewe so much more incredible.

The way footy has been played in the last decade makes it far easier to take marks - there is more possession generally, the grounds are better (some are indoors), conditions are better, there is more of an emphasis on maintaining possession etc.

Marks in general are far higher now than the were previously.

The fact that Loewe still holds that record is a testament to 1) how good a mark he was (I've never seen better in my lifetime) and 2) his durability as a CHF/ruckman, both incredibly tough positions to play.

Obviously 500 more than you.....

At least he's played at the highest level and given his all for the Saints through at least two serious injuries (shoulder and hamstring).

PS only those who never try will never fail!

Not bad-mouthing the great Buckets.
But I think you will find that that data is only since they began to properly record that data.
It is generally accepted that Gary Dempsey clearly holds the unofficial record for most marks taken.
He spent most of his career, after contesting the ruck, dropping into the slot one kick behind the play and marking anything that came his way.
