Has Blake got another chance????
I'm saying either way (sitting on the fence) but has Blake who I thought would be his last year, given himself another chance by been competetive in the ruck with Ben's absence??? What you think folks has it extended his career at St.Kilda???

Seeing him line up in the ruck at the opening bounce last Saturday was a big surprise, and shows how depleted our
ruck stocks are.

With Ben out, it was either him, Kosi or Stanley, so Scotty went for the experience of Blake so that Kosi could start at Full Forward.
Seems like commonsense to me.

Maybe Scotty remembered Blakey's "Brownlow" game in the ruck against the same opponents a few years back and thought "why not"saintspremiers wrote:Why was it a surprise?philtee wrote:Seeing him line up in the ruck at the opening bounce last Saturday was a big surprise, and shows how depleted our

Re: Has Blake got another chance????
Our list management has given him another chance…
OhAilphen, McCauley, Currie pffft even Pattison would get a gig this week if they were on our list.
Hale & Roughhead is one thing, but the next 3 weeks will be interesting, if not comical…
Hampson/Kreuzer, Cox/Natanui, Mumford/Seaby
I suppose it will be good for Stanley to have a go against the best, as our number 1 for awhile

Poor bastard, first game back, against his old club, crunching blokes in tackles…Dr Spaceman wrote:The first guy may have a problem getting up for this gamedragit wrote:Our list management has given him another chance…

Is Jason Blake really 189cm - as listed? Surely not.
Maybe we could have Winmar taking the taps, same height, probably a better leap?

Did we want Irish in our team at any stage? There was a bit of talk from what I remember.Dr Spaceman wrote:The first guy may have a problem getting up for this gamedragit wrote:Our list management has given him another chance…

Going off Setanta's twitter account he's genuinely an awesome bloke...Feel for the bloke cos he likely played his last game.dragit wrote:Poor bastard, first game back, against his old club, crunching blokes in tackles…Dr Spaceman wrote:The first guy may have a problem getting up for this gamedragit wrote:Our list management has given him another chance…

Looking at Blake in comparison to our other defenders he looks a similar height to Gilbert and taller than Fisher who are listed as taller than him....Although Gilbert walks around with a slight hunch.

Blakey is going ok and will retire when he retires which will be probably at the end of the year. Until then, we need him and there is no one else...

We obviously struggled. Maybe he could of played on Franklin and then Dempster could have gone to Cyril.bigcarl wrote:How did we think the backline held up without Blake in it?

BTW Dr. S., how did he not get a vote in that game? He was busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. I smell an anti-Blake conspiracy!Dr Spaceman wrote:Maybe Scotty remembered Blakey's "Brownlow" game in the ruck against the same opponents a few years back and thought "why not"saintspremiers wrote:Why was it a surprise?philtee wrote:Seeing him line up in the ruck at the opening bounce last Saturday was a big surprise, and shows how depleted our

Old Blakey he's one of those people who isn't an expert in anything but knows a bit about everything. You can never
Question his efforts, and there is no replacement for him at the mo. I'd be suprised if he goes another year but he is
Durable.

Re: Has Blake got another chance????
I won't accept any criticism of Jason Blake. He always plays to the maximum of his capabilities. He's courageous, hard working, and dependable, as well as versatile. I feel better when he's out there than when he's not. The criticism of him on this forum is bamboozling, and those who want to force him to VFL or worse need to think again.
All I can say is, thank god he didn't retire at the end of 2011, otherwise, we'd be in even more trouble. Go Blakey!!!!!!

Re: Has Blake got another chance????
Unlike so many ex-spurts who contribute to this forum I actually go to the games. On Saturday night Jason Blake was a revelation in the 1st half - more than holding his own in the ruck; drifting forward and taking marks and racking up countless "non-possessions" knocking the ball to our advantage when he was on the ground. Usually, with half a dozen Hawthorn players on top of him! Losing Fisher at half time meant Blake was required down back more often and that hurt us on the ball and up forward.
People forget he was Grant Thomas' go-to man for the ruck; might be a little on the short side but he has great timing and a good leap. I doubt if any club has a more team-focussed individual.
As for his last season, I feared he might have played his last game when he went down against Melbourne with his legs bending ways they were never designed for.
Just hope he keeps giving the same great service and never polls a Brownlow vote - that way he will still be getting a mention at trivia nights for decades to come.

Jason Blake will help turn the negative into a positive, sure we are short in the ruck, but perhaps we are less clunky.
