Watters on ABC Perth

Post: # 1178504Post Sick Nal Danto »

Didn;t hear the whole interview, missed the first five minutes but I wrote down most of what was said

Things he learned from Malthouse

Wants Assistant coaches to feel like they are coaching
To always be thinking ahead of the game

2011 Draft(s)

Drafted "leaders"
Hinted at drafting mature age players in rookie draft (W.A)
Very Surprised that Kyal Horsely wasn't drafted-expects him to be drafted
Also said that Horsely hasn't been drafted because he started late

Draftees

See's a young Pendlebury in Seb Ross,
Thinks Seb's skills are VERY good
would be very happy if he became half the player pendlebury is
Jay Lever is is a mid-long term project, sees him as a Forward/Ruck
Markworth is a super athlete and very versatile, bit of a project player
Webster is very versatile, beautiful kick, slid due to soft tissue injuries
Newnes is very versatile, good skills, Leadership is compared to Lenny

Other

Training will be very skill and Gameplan focused c
Players will have christmas break from 22nd dec-5 january
Wants new coaches and players to spend heaps of time together

Looks like they drafted players who show strong leadership, have good skills and are good guys all round.

Let's wait till he at least coaches 1 game.

Fairly easy to say the right things as a new coach.

Happens all the time with supporters. Once someone leaves they were never good and a crap bloke. Then when someone comes into the club they are suddenly Jesus Christ.

Didnt mean to insinuate anything about GT and RL as blokes, was simply pointing out that they had their strengths and weaknesses as coaches, and, whilst it remains yet to be put to the test, it appears SW may be a bit of the best of both worlds.

Markworth was an over-age TAC player. He is 8 months older than Sipposs. So he is really the mystery man from our pics. Maybe he was only good in TAC because he was a year older than most of the kids? or maybe he is a real special talent.
I suspect the uncertainty around his over-age status in TAC is why he slipped down to us in the 30s.

Not sure why -
I just think he might step up quickly - he will be 20 in April 2012. So almost ready to go.
