How many years will Watters coach us for?

Post: # 1163261Post saintspremiers »

Lyon our 10 year coach lasted 5 seasons as did GT.

Our last coach to last longer than 5 years was Jeansy.

My guess for Watters is 6 years. That would be a massive effort at St Kilda and equilavent to 10 years at a stable club.

I have a good feeling about this one, if he does well I believe we have found our 10 year coach. :)

Lyon coached us for 123 games in 5 seasons for a 63% winning ratio.

Thomas coached us for 127 games in 5 1/2 seasons for a 51% win rate.

Thomas is our second longest serving coach behind Jeansy.

Jeansey coached us for 16 seasons for 332 games for a 58 win rate.

I'd consider Watters a success if he can overtake Thomas and coach 150 games.

About 150 games and or 7 years is pretty good these days. 10 year pus coaches are becoming rarer. 20 year coaches like Sheeds, well forget about it.

if we have a 7 to 10 year coach with a winning % rate of around 60%, I'd take that.

Alves coached us for 113 games in 5 seasons for a 48.7% win rate.

Sheldon coached us for 4 seasons for 89 games for a win rate of 53%. He was considered pretty succesful at the time and was the first coach to take us into the finals in 18 years. Fancy playing finals next in 2029?

Maybe three.

so when does harvs get a look in - 5 years itself is a long wait.
club had a chance to have him as coach - that's probably gone now unless watters is a failure.

Not everyone can be a senior coach in AFL.

Are you fuukkin serious? Watters hasn't even walked in the door and you are coming up with this shiiit.

It is no wonder that we are laughing stock in the AFL. I really believe that until a poster as an IQ of something above say, 10 their post will not happen!!!!!!!!!!

he's not the messiah..not with that list.....

The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.

I doubt he'll be a 10 year coach unless St Kilda is unbelievably successful over the next decade.

The guy has no links to St Kilda whatsoever. Why would he be loyal to a club who has given him nothing? If a better offer comes along he'll take it, just as RL did.

Club people, like GT and probably Robert Harvey if he ever gets the chance, are more likely to stay for the long haul in my opinion.

unless he actually claims ownership here

Chris Scott looks like he every bit a part of Geelong coz he helped recreate it. Lets hope Watters can do something special

Off topic here, but I'd be interested in GT's winning ratio in the three seasons between 2004 and 2006 ... after he stopped tanking for draft picks to build the fabulous, still physically-developing young list he presented Lyin' with.

As for Watters, unless you are Nostradamus who can say how long.

My guess is that it will depend on how successful he is. So hopefully a long time.

46 wins
26 losses

64% 2004 - 2006 including finals

44 wins
22 losses

67% 2004 - 2006 excluding finals

33% finals winning ratio

Thanks Sainterdad. As I suspected. A very good record with a young, developing and injury-ravaged team.

I am just looking ahead to what he can do for us next year.

After that, we can all take a punt, with some real time experience to base "guesses" on !

crap. he's only 40. if he's any good as a senior coach then he'll get a job somewhere else in the next five years. and he'll be successful and maybe he'll coach the saints in ten years or so.

i'm just disappointed that damian kitschke never got a chance to coach the saints.
