Chicken Shop Rumour
on Friday, I was walking past my local chicken shop as was bailed up by the owner there, who excitedly pulled me in telling me of the news he has that I wouldnt like.
He's told me before that he's close to some people at Carlton and he's been pretty good with info (although inconsequential) in the past
Anyway, according to him Carlton are talking with BJ and he swears black and blue that Goddard will be at Carlton in 2013.
Do I believe him? I havent got a clue, i dont think could Carlton match the money that GWS would offer and i guess there are a whole lot of other factors that make this unfeasible but thought it was worthy posting it here

Environmental ambassador.
Carlton would be hard pressed to 'legitimately' fit him in their salary cap. If carlton were to offer him 1m p/a that could be matched by st kilda with only 500k going to our salary cap. as at St Kilda we have the capacity to tuck him into the 'veterans' list, which affords a fair amount of protection.
If he does go, that would clear from our salary cap to go spend up big else where.
rumours abound.

forget about Carlton getting him without doing some dodgy deal like the Judd deal. But with the veterans list, how does that work and wouldn't it apply to Carlton?Dan Warna wrote:Environmental ambassador.

Under current rules, Goddard can't go on the veterans list until 2015. Still, it doesn't loook like the AFL are going to be approving any more Juddy deals, so I think the odds of BJ going to anybody but GWS are slim. Carlton fans have been dreaming about this for years. It's not going to happen.
Yeah nah pleasing positive
10 years service with the one club, so no Carlton cannot use it, unless the get him in 2012 goddard is there till 2021, possible but unlikely.Stillwaiting wrote:forget about Carlton getting him without doing some dodgy deal like the Judd deal. Andrew Thomson could not go on the vets list because we recruited him as a 24 year old.

Agreed. Carlton would have to give up something amazing to get him, just as they did with Judd. Then again, we could just have blind faith that he'll stay and refuse all of Carlton's offers of pick 26 and a fringe player... no, that wouldn't happen to St Kilda....oh, wait a minuteMoorabbin Man wrote:All the more reason to lock him in in the next week or trade him if he does not want to extend his contract.

I mean, offer him a good deal - Id also suggest captaincy as I think he'd be good and if he says no......lets talk trade. I mean we aint gonna lose this guy for nought and be screwed along the way.
Right now the cards are in our hand......time to play them smart. Make a good offer, show BJ the loyalty and if that isnt reciprocated.....move fwd.
