Cats show the Saints the Way

Post: # 1153503Post saints66 »

Cats have shown that it is the players and not the coach. We don't need Lyon, we still have the players to do the job.

Go Saints Do the Job

Well what can you say. Great group of players but a team first ethic.
Even the stars don't act like stars. Lingy as skipper. There is no denying them.

3 flags from 4 gfs. Equals the lions effort.

Yes, and they did it with a relatively simple game plan by modern standards, which allowed talented individuals to do their stuff.

Geelong are a different team to us player wise.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Saints and Cats were the new kids on the block back in 2004 and we always looked the team with the better prospects. Even in 2009 we looked the better side.

So maybe you are right but a toe poke here and a little bit of luck we could have been them now!

They had a rookie coach

All clubs should sack their coaches and go and grab one.....it means success

Just make sure you have 20 odd dual premiership players...

Do we? In reality we're 8 to 10 short.

We need to take a bit of the West Coast book as well. Out of nowhere about half a dozen of the young players become stars (or on their way to becoming stars).

I think it is the brave but it didnt favour Zac Dawson in 2009.

a fantastic play but didn't go our way. Kosi, Mini, Milne all free going the other way. Probably would have stuffed it up anyway.

give scott the credit he deserves - he reinvigorated the cats - made them hungry. our overrated coach simply made us tired.
how must freo be feeling right now?

In 2004 we smashed geelong in the wizard cup and early in 2004

We were still better in 2005.....we both fell to pieces after.....

Then we were left in their wake

More to do with Ball, Clarkes, Maguire, Penny, Brooks, Watt etc falling by the wayside combined with pathetic recruiting choices.

Crucially, I feel like Geelong's players give a stuff.

They didn't 'mentally tire' after 2008 or 2010. Why did ours?

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

We smashed them in 2006 too and then they zoomed past us - aided by recruiting one J Selwood - while we sacked our coach and had to sit out two years while our players learnt a new style.

We learnt the new style and showed in 2009 and 2010 that we were at least as good as the Cats. But we choked a bit and were a bit unlucky in 2009. And in 2010 the Pies were clearly better than us, but choked in GF- and deservedly won in GF2.

If Lenny and Gwilt can come back, we're not far away IMO.

Jimmy Bartell, Selwod missing from our side IMO. Apart from that pretty even.

Still gives them a huge advantage though.

Lets not forget that as well as Geelong losing Thompson at the end of last year they also lost some Gary Jnr bloke, yet still got themselves up to have a convincing win this year, against one of the most dominant teams of all time (over a 25-30 game period, or however long it was for Collingwood, from mid last year to late this year).
