The Politically Correct Coaching Selection Panel

Post: # 1147206Post Moorabbin Man »

I see that Caro's even taking the piss out of our Coaching Selection Panel in her article today, when she referred to it as 'politically correct'. There was a hint of sarcasm in that statement, sort of saying, that's all that's right with it. I can imagine our Bumbling Board putting it together, the focus being their corporate image and affirmitive action. Rather than getting the most important decision this club will make in decades right!!!

Imagine their deliberations: "well we need a club legend on the panel, our crack CEO and it's critical to have a couple of sisters on the panel to affirm our comitment to equal opportunity."Do you think we need an experienced Coach on the panel? No, they're disagreeable bastards and I can't see what expertise they may bring to the table?"

Now whilst I don't rate a person's quality by their gender, WTF would a hockey player and a Human Resources Manager know about coaching an AFL team??????

I'll give the Board a broad hint: you can't now undo your monumental c**k up, so stop the Corporate posturing and do whatever it takes to get Malthouse. Whether you need to climb Everest or walk through fire DO IT, REDEEM YOURSELVES. If you think he's too expensive, take a pay cut Nettlefold.

I have no doubt that Malthouse's desire to keep coaching is burning, he's said so. We're the only Club left to go to and I'm sure he'd like the challenge. So spare us the gutless, he's contracted excuse, GROW A SET AND GO AND GET HIM.

Surely names in a hat is a better approach...what would a fitness management expert, a sporting club CEO, and ex-sporting club CEO, a business expert, ex-AFL legend, etc. know about what it takes to be a good coach?

While not having better suggestions, I found the panel when announced confusing, concerning and tokenistic to a degree. Thinking about it more now, its still quite a concern.

had a similar view.....it had a touch of "lets be all corporate and professional" about it but they left of coaching experience..

Well he has a point, a chic from the IOS hockey specialist or some such...come on now....not even a tad tokenistic? Has to be, cause I cant see it being relevant enough to be on the selection committee of a AFL coach thats for sure !!

Maybe coaching isn't all push-ups, circle work and boot camps any more...otherwise Tommy Hafey isn't doing much these days!

Yeah. Fancy putting women on any panel. Other being 50% of the population, both general and sporting, what would they know about anything? Just political correctness. We need to go back to the good old days of rich white men (with the help of heaps of stupid non rich white men) being able to put these usurpers in their place without interference.

Perhaps it's tokanistic because they already know who they are after? !

I'm doing the witty, sarcastic responses tonight...but I've run dry. Maybe it appear's tokenistic because none of the bone-heads that have posted on here have a clue what is required of a professional modern coach? (added sarcasm).

We should round out the panel with a member of the trans-gender community.
Is Hutchy available?

Saw him at a Docklands pub the other day, he's actually fatter and uglier than I thought but he did have a very long perv at the very hot chick I was with (workmate not mine  )

A selection panel is a complete crock. The president and board should make the decision and live or die by it.

The whole idea reeks of having someone to in place to blame should we choose a dud.

I could live with Malthouse as coach or even GT, but please get us someone who is 1) fair dinkum about St Kilda Football Club and 2) will take us forward.

It's a very important process. We need a group of interesting people to amuse Chris Pelchen before he ignores them all and makes his own decision. My tip is somebody who will sit down, shut up and do what they're told. Preferably somebody cuddly.

So not Malthouse.

Yeah nah pleasing positive
