Neither is hated by me.

I respect both of them enormously and think both made major contributiions towards making the last decade a far more enjoyable one for this particular Saints supporter than were either of the two preceeding decades.

Should get one of those cage fights going when they are both unemployed in a couple of years.

2nd and 4th best stk coaches.....why hate them...dissapointed in ross perhaps??

Do we hate i.stewart or carl ditterich??

Btw why is thomas hated at all????

I think he was hated by ross lyon supportersto strengthen a silly and childish viewpoint over the issue of ross lyons ability/credibilty as senior coach....

+1

And I might add, both were dead stiff not to take us to a flag.

Agreed 100%.

I have no hatred at all towards either of them.

Thomas restored the club's dignity and self-belief, laying the foundations for a period that has seen us miss the finals once since 2004.

Likewise, Lyon engineered a tactical plan that allowed us to be extremely competitive for long periods.

Both have earned their place at the club.

The bitterness towards Lyon, at the moment, is not an emotion I feel. A change of coach hardly feels like the end of the world to me.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Hate is a wasted emotion on
a) people you dont know personally
b) football employees
c) things you cant control.

Why hate either?

They haven't comitted a crime against the club.

They are not even at the club.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Don't hate either. Both in their own ways created some respect for the St.Kilda Football Club. The last decade has been more enjoyable for me as a saints fan than the previous three were. They are both narcissists and control freaks of the highest order, but it seems you need that lack of empathy and a strong and unshakable sense of your own greatness to be an AFL coach.

No comparison. Lyon by miles.

Thomas was controversial for some of his methods and maybe slightly annoying personality - but not sure he was ever disliked let alone hated? He was a Saints man through and through and had a falling out with Butters and got fired. So not sure Thomas did anything wrong or engaged in any skullduggery. His mistakes were pretty minor really....

I've got huge respect for Grant Thomas, he was always a loyal St Kilda person, and he helped restore dignity and respect at the club, and assembeled a fantastic group

Is it GT or the board at the times fault that injury management was shytehouse.

Whoever is to blame for that I hate as it cost us 2 flags in 04 and 05.

Don't hate either.

I quite enjoy Thommo as a media personality, makes me laugh, and I can see qualities in him that would of endeared him to the players.

Ross, I didn't like the manner of his leaving, but appreciate he was a very good coach during his tenure at St Kilda. Doesn't somehow = hate, I just enjoy talking about stuff

= tie

Both started off well....but in the end got too full of themselves.

Both forgot that at the end of the day footy is about TEAMS, and indeed clubs....and not individuals

But then again if someone offered me another $700K a year.....

Don't hate either of them - dislike Lyon for the way he departed the footy club.

And his part in the loss of Ball, and how he traded DP16 to bring that oxygen bandit into the Saints.

I'm a GT fan ...but too bad for him his ego blocked his view....

There was a time in the 80's when GT was one of our only decent players...

Ross turned out to be a snake and slithered West

Season 2024 is where RTB is showing the footy world his grasp of the modern game.

Maybe who annoys you the most GT or RL? Although both have flaws as coaches, they did at least get us winning games and contesting finals, though couldn't pull the right trick off when needed. I used to come home late from work on weekends and watch us on cable TV in 2004,5 era and loved watching us do the demolition jobs on the opposition, and playing great team footy in the process, though it was obvious GT wasn't handling the playing list all that well later in his tenure. I didn't come home and look forward to watching us under RL, apart from being satisfied with the wins- I usually fast forward to goals or the final siren as it is horrible to watch even though we won a lot. I thought GT was a Saints man and did his best, even when the ego got in the way, however RL has shown liitle passion or enjoyment in his success and his effort last week just showed he has little respect for the players, club, supporters. He could have made a dignified exit and said he wanted the security of more money and took up the best offer, and thanks to all and wished everybody well, but instead did the cowardly thing and snuck out the back door for a bag of money.
