yeah i know
d**khead
we have some youth coming thru (sip, tommy, rhys) so we dont need him
cant be trusted
yadda yadda yadda
but what if he came seriously cheap?
what if the contract was water tight with 'one f*** up (list f*** ups) and you are out mate" on the final dotted line??
what if he committed to fitness and all that goes with seriously having a decent effort and crack in the contract???
yeah yeah
kicked 11 and 6 and 5 over the last few in the vfl
but he's fat lazy and unfit and prob still unmotivated a bit and no ones sure if he can be trusted
NOTE:
he isnt the only player to abuse supporter's we have some that do it themselves.....
But yes i believe he still has what it takes, and would do alot better then our current full forward...
I would never have thought a VFL plodder like Podsiadly would have got an AFL game, but Geelong saw the need to for a big body at FF and it has paid off.. you get the players you need to do a certain job.
I reckon Fev would be fantastic for us out of the square, as a Rookie on a 12 month contract with no grog/no gambling conditions in it and a fitness level requirement to be reached by the end of pre season.
If he reaches the required fitness level and has complied with all other conditions, he would be elevated to the senior list however, if he doesn't comply with all the conditions, he's out on his ear.
Just imagine how much pressure he would take off Rooey, enormous. Let's not forget, the stronger the contract the better for StKFC and for Fev himself. As a kid, he was a Saints supporter.
If he comes cheap then absolutely. We have plenty of dead wood on our list and by all reports there won't be too much depth in the draft, so if we can snare a potential 70-goal FF with a 5th round pick then I think the benefits outweigh the negatives. There will be media scrutiny but if Lyon's "bubble" really works then that shouldn't be an issue.
I believe 2012 is our last crack at a flag for quite a while and we won't win one by playing it safe all the time.
Hasn't Ross constantly said we are in a transition phase?
Blending the new and the existing?
I'd much rather go after someone younger, that will compliment the likes of the Farren, Goddard, Gwilt, Gilbert, McEvoy, Steven, Armo group...when the older guys retire.
No more GOP's being role-players, no more fillers, no more "second chances".
Time for our recruitment staff to go and find some real quality kids around the country. I think we've started pretty well with this years' crop, and Siposs looks to be a steal at pick 75.
I don't think we've employed Chris Pelchen to continue finding stop-gaps from other lists. Lets trade aggressively for a bunch of quality picks over the next 2-3 years, and if it means we lose some quality now, so be it. Does it mean finishing bottom 2 for the next 5 seasons, certainly not.
I still think this is the best way to win our next flag.
I have said no all along, but the way our big forwards are traveling bahh. I say go for it with more conditions than the Geneva convention and only on a 1 year contract, and we pick him up for less than the cost of a slab.
Time to roll the dice, next year is our last shot before this core group move on. No point dying wondering. It also frees up Walsh to play somewhere else and Kosi to play in the ruck... Seems a great fit.
Yes, if he was cheap why wouldn't you. It's just like the stock market, put some in up and coming speculatives, some in under valued blue chips, and a little high risk high gain on the side and you get the right mix of safe and speculative.
Yes, if he's cheap and the contract is watertight.
That being said, is there such a thing as a watertight contract? It's all very well to have a 'no d**khead' clause in the contract, but it all comes down to how you defy d**khead behaviour and I guarantee you something, the AFLPA will not be on our side.
This club has already got a s*** past, currently we are pretty s***, we have had to put up with s*** all year for all sorts of reasons, why would we want more s***? Is Fev really the answer to a Premiership? or just more trouble down the track. Seriously.
I love the guy, hes a great bloke to have a chat to but come on, get real. He is not the answer to what we are looking for.
"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."
