Robbo: Magician and "Massacrist"

Post: # 1119925Post perfectionist »

From the HUN:

"IN a sense it was a tale of two running half-back flankers.
One was Collingwood's Leon Davis. The other was St Kilda's Sam Gilbert.

One was a magician. The other was a massacrist."

Did he really mean to use that word? If so, it sounds a little harsh given its meaning. Or was he searching for masochist?

Leon Davis (who didn't have an opponent) did his fair share of ball butchering as well, unlike Ben Johnson (who did have an opponent, who was subbed) who placed every one of his disposals into the arms of a teammate. Easily the BOG from where I sat on the MW.

i highly doubt he was searching for masochist, that would have been very odd

Alas, I think "sporting masochist" perfectly describes us supporters.

One thought kept coming into my mind when watching Gilbo last night. Trade. Nothing personal but he has currency at present and is not able to hit targets. Good player but his kicking will always be average.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
