2012 starts now

Post: # 1092945Post Con Gorozidis »

We need to stop with the delusion we are going to suddenly flick the switch back to 2009 and just start winning games and have any impact come finals time. We are a long way behind the top 4 - Pies, Cats, Blues, Hawks.

(yes - someone will tell me we only lost to the blues by 3 points).

There are numerous reasons for our poor 2011 showing. Many of them are off-field related. Some on-field. But regardless, we need to start a fresh mental campaign . Just holding up the dam walls and battling through 2011 is just tiring for everyone.

Start planning for 2012 - get games into kids. Get some players (Sippo, Cripps and Gamble come to mind) on serious weights programs.

Find out of Lynch, Walsh, Stanley, Winmar want to be there in 2012.

Start looking at a trading strategy (gee that Guigan guy for Carlton is helping them out).
Start looking at assist coaches.
Start managing senior players workloads and mental stress.
The aim should be to know who our best 22 is by Round 8 next year. Then just stick with a core 22 and have a real crack at it.

Not sure how it's going to be possible, but we simply need some gun young players to arrive on the doorstep of the club.

I still cant quite get my head around how the Pies landed Jolly and Ball when they were already top 4.

Danny Cipriani from the Melbourne Rebels looks alright.

Maybe he could code switch?

The only positive that might come from 2012 is if we find one or two more young kids that are capable of playing 100 or more games.

The next opportunity for entertainment in 2011 will be trade time.

From next game on .. I reckon.

The 4 - 6 less effective players should make way for the kids.,, provided they performed at a good level in the VFL.

Walsh, Winmar, Ledger, Stanley, Smith, Simpkin, Lynch , Siposs etc.. (pity Cripps was injured) .. 4 to 6 should be played each week.

No immunity.

Will be interesting then, because the 4-6 least effective are not the traditional 'bottom 6'

We're still a shot this season. I haven't given up.

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

If we drift into the finals getting real experience is invaluable for young players. Even if that is Big mac, Armo, Steven and one or two others.

i think clubs are always planning for their long terms.

we still have season 2011 to play out, don't we?
This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph.
