At the end of the day....who's responsible

Post: # 1091813Post BigMart »

In 2009 we were on par with the cats...ages of groups similar

Since then, geelong have stayed at the level.....we have fallen.....and are a middle-low team

Some people should be held accountable for

No evolution in game plan
Inability to develop team with improving players
Poor list management
Poor fwd structure
Selection integrity

Who oversees these areas....they need to take responsibility....they built the team, have summers to planand prepare....and they came up with a sub par performance...not good enough

Only one coach still there this year.

Backs coach below standard.
Mids coach woeful.
Forwards coach non existent.

Ross needs a new team.

Tony Delaney.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Who is actually our skills coach? Is this up to the line coaches, or what?

You dont coach skills at that level.....you recruit them..

Very little can be changed at that age.....

Coaches at afl level coach structures, systems and movement.....they recruit the players to carry it out..

So, the skills have deteriorated because the players don't care?

To be honest.. the pressure at the ball user that's created by every team now is unbelievable... we've always had iffy skilled players.. we were able to mask it in the last two years playing Lyon's style..

1. flood opposition's forward line, play sam fisher/gilbert as the free man. making it hard to score. that's why riewoldt is always 1 against 3. and our backmen chalk up most marks.

2. set up zone/press and use pressure to create turnover goals.. these are the easiest goals to kick.. as the other team will be out of position. hence battlers like mini and eddy were getting a game... their role is forcing turnovers..

3. play slow tempo football.. control the ball by play safe... kicking it sideways/backwards.. and give the ball to goddard, dal santo, montagna and hays when possible..

4. rely on the brilliance of milne, schneider and roo to kick a winning score (6-12 goals)

In 2011... due to injury.. more opposition pressure/zone, we're forced to play on, carry the ball.. in order to beat the zone.. we continue to play extra men behind the ball (because our defence 1 on 1 is not great).. and now less skilled players are found out.. poor skills due to exhaustion... (from pressure, running back to support backline, from playing on).. the taxing game style also causes poor kicking for goal i think... even our better kicks makes mistakes e.g. fisher.. dal

The only way is to slowly phase out those less skilled players.. and play a more 1 on 1 mixed with zone... but it's not likely we've got young skillful midfielders in the 2s ready to go.. (apart from ledger a 1st year player.. and smith).. we're in for a long haul i think..

Cost us 2 goals in the first quarter plus the runner debarkle.

3 goals they should never of had.

And as for Ray Chamberlain, just when it looked like we were going to keep the goaless in the third, 2 rather iffy free kicks and a mark to mcevoy knocked out of his hands play on and no mark to baker cos apparantly a 15 foot player touched it.

Make no mistake we lost this game they didnt win it

When your key play makers are out of form, what can you do.

 We go where we did because the coach innovated and got the team to play the most committed football in the land.

This raised them above all other teams for a bit and almost won two flags.

Unfortunately our gameplan has been worked out and over...an so what once game us the edge is no more.

Our players back them actually have the same skill level back then as now.

We have never had the best list...but for two years we had the best coach.

Personally I think Lyon needs to draw a line in the sand and move on. To be successful now we need to get some more skilful players in the team, for with the game the way it is now played skills are more important than ever.

Lyon needs to change his philosiphy or move on.....he coached well in 2009, because he innovated....in 2010....one team caught up and passed us, it was his move post 2010..... He failed to be proactive, and hoped the same would give us another tilt.....not good thinking....

No doubt a great coach..... This year he erred, and results show this

I think it is more of a case that the plan has changed and they have not got a grasp of it yet. Same thing happened in 2008. Ross introduced a new plan and the players took the first part of the season to cotton on to it.

The coach is always ultimately accountable, but gee whiz, the players are making it hard on him. This team is not that bad, they are just executing very badly. There is a VERY big difference.

If that Geelong team that played tonight think they are going to win the flag, they are kidding themselves. Their personnel is not better than ours, they just executed much better and did not make the same mistakes that we did.

Smith can't kick....why would we pine for his inclusion

Geelong showed better skills so I'd say they are better than us.

Another opportunity awaits!
