Steven Baker - still a must pick every week!

Post: # 1088161Post Sam23 »

Higgins 21 touches in the first half - he is everywhere, chopping us off half back.

Baker goes to him as a forward tag, Higgins has 5 handballs and 1 kick in the second half and Baker kicks a goal.

Still a very good stopper.

Goddard.

Excellent game from Baker I thought.

Reckon he kicked it forward more times tonight than he ever has :D .

He has been written off every week for the last 3 years on Saintsational yet he just keeps on keeping on.

He did well to nail it in the end, because they put him on a much more acute angle than he was supposed to be on.
The free kick occurred near the point of the goalsquare, yet the mark ended up being almost beside the goalpost, with Bakes on a very acute angle. It was the worst setting of a mark I can remember seeing and by a long way.
Go Bakes!

Pretty close to the most underrated player ever to grace the field!

I reckon Ross Lyon has his number sewn onto his dufflecoat. He must be the best bloke in the world to coach.

Yep. dead right. He was actually set twice. The first umpire was going to pay it on less of an angle but further out. The second umpire came in and I thought (erroneously) that he was going to correct it.

Agree, except for one late in the third which went sideways rather than up the line and cost us.

I agree he gives you everthing out there, however Bakes just one thing.

Please, kick the ball forwards!

I felt on at least two occasions last night he broke the momentum in kicking backwards, and it actually resulted in a Dogs goal as he caught our players off guard in disrupting the flow on footy.

At least he got one back :)

However I think it's fair enough to point it out, is it because he has a purely defensive mindset, or he doesn't trust his kicking?

or there was no forward option - pretty sure that is the directive.

Disagree, his hesitation in those situations would ensure there was no forward option.

It just stands out, because he is one of the only remaining guys playing that way.
