Lockett end renamed by Essendon?

Post: # 1070504Post saintbrat »

Essendon honours birthday boy Fletcher renaming Lockett end at Etihad

ESSENDON will give veteran Dustin Fletcher a 36th birthday present by permanently naming an end of Etihad Stadium in his honour.

Starting today against the West Coast Eagles, the Lockett End will revert to the Fletcher End for Bomber games.

Fletcher, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, has played 333 games in 19 seasons since being drafted in 1992 as a father/son selection.

"He's an amazing player with a natural athletic ability who I would rate as one of the greatest players in the game," declared former great and now coach James Hird.

Fletcher beat greats Dick Reynolds, Bill Hutchison and Terry Daniher in a poll of more than 10,000 Essendon website votes to be opposite the Lloyd End.

Well it's better than the Lloyd end as they had previously.

MW is unofficial.

Maybe we should have the Rooey end instead of that Collingwood bloke who kicked a few goals in the 1800's!

We are allowed signs just as essendon are. Maybe we should rename it but I dont see the point, we already have the Lockett end but I am sure if wwe want to call the other end the Frawley end we could. Maybe we could call the boundary line the Jack Daniels line.

Plugger, I like your creativity, but get with the times please.

The Jason Gram line for the boundary is far more this decade.

nup - bulls*** - Bad call Gary

what is it with them and the Lockett end?

they dont dare challenge the Coventry End - chickenshits

the two ends commemorate the 2 men that kicked the most goals in VFL / AFL history

Claim it when you beat it

Personally I was rather it be called the Harvey end or Barker end than the Lockett end.

Bulldogs do a similar thing with their giant posters.

Perhaps we should rename the ends for our games after club greats.

Baldock?
Barker?
Harvey?
Bromberg?

It's appropriate Mordi is on the bench.
I think he also spent some time there in the early 80s.

Unbearable arrogance from the Bombers.
It's not just this 'special' match...don't they re-name the Lockett end the Lloyd end for their home games?

This is absolute bullsh*t and shows a lack of respect for (statistically) the greatest full-forward who's ever played the game.

I think he kicked about 400 more goals than Lloyd!

They should never be allowed to re-name the Lockett end...who allows this?

In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

The Matthew Lloyd turf? He seemed to spend a lot of time down there.

What will the commentators refer to it as though?

ie. What's the official name of that end at Essendon home games?
