19 games to go?

Been a little bit surprised about the general tone of the posts since the Essendon loss. It's all doom and gloom - rebuild this, season over that. It's round 3 and that means 19 games to go. There is a long way to go this season and I'm not ready to write it off yet. True, our performances have ranged from average to deplorable so far but a 0-1-2 start does not mean season over.

It is the lack of form from our stars that is to blame for our current ladder position and this will not last forever. In fact, I'd be very surprised if it lasts one more week. Form is temporary. We have too many GREAT players who are not playing anywhere near their best. They will turn it around and the truth is that they have more than enough time to do it. We do need to drop the deadwood (Ray and Peake I'm looking at you) and bring in a couple more youngsters but it is and always will be the stars that carry this team. Call this a negative if you want but I'm pretty damn happy with the stars we have in the team and have faith that they will return to top form soon. For god's sake, they've dropped two (and a half) games.

Call it optimism (I wouldn't) but we have made a grand final from a worse position before (remember '97?) and there is no reason why this great team (yes it is a great St.Kilda team) cant do it again. Great teams don't turn average overnight. It rarely happens.

So chin up everyone, it's early days.
