Forward Structure

Post: # 1034024Post saintjake »

personally i see our forward line as out biggest weakness, it doesnt kick enough goals or have enough quality down there to scare any opposition sides.

for example, if you play a Full Forward, they need to be a full forward, you can't have a resting ruckman down there or Kosi, because just as Collingwood did in the GF replay, they will run off them, every time Maxwell saw Mcevoy go to FF he was like, righto boys, ill take him, because he new he could out run off him and create so much play.

At least if its an actual FF who hits back and kicks 5-6 a game, you would allow them to run off and hope for a quick counter and another goal.

This why i personally think Roo has to be moved to FF, he is a strong body, and will always make the contest we know this, and a move to FF will also stretch out his career.

our options are CHF are obviously stanley/gilbo both agile, good runners. good marks.

but i would honestly rather see BJ play at chf, his skills would be wasted at FF but at CHF he would play the roaming Riewoldt role better than Riewoldt because he would a) give better delievery and b) have a decent target to hit.

by bringing in an actual FF and giving him space it brings the milne of old back into it, obviously still with the new tackling pressure that his game has developed. but then also the goal sneak, once the ball hits the deck he is the best crumber we have, he has amazing goal sense, yes he can be an idiot and try and do too much. but he is one of the best small forwards going around.
Remember the partnership he and G-TRAIN use to have, thats what we need Roo and milne to build.
5-6 goals a game from Roo
2-3 from milne
2-3 from gilbo/goddard/stanley at CHF then the mids popping in a few.
lets not forget the addition of gamble and schnieds and a fully fit gram bombing from 50.
its a whole new look with hopefully a better result we all crave

There's another thread exactly like this but what the hell.

Relying on Rooey to kick 5 or 6 every game isn't going to get it done. What we need is 3-4 from Riewoldt, our forwards to get between 1-3 a game and some goals from our midfielders to spread the load. Guys like Gram, Goddard, Montagna and even Dal need to get us a goal a game if we want a flag.

We don't have enough genuine midfielders to play BJ at CHF. We are already too relient on Hayes, and the bloke is into his 30s.

Sure, if we had 5 BJs then we could spare one to play CHF and he would most likely be the best CHF in the league, but I really think we need to keep using Beej as he is currently being used.

Plus it makes it darn near impossible to keep him quiet for a whole game because he can just move to another position to work himself into the game.
