Which of the kids could really step it up in 2011?

Post: # 1025182Post dcstkfc »

Could Winmar get anywhere near it with a full pre-season?
Will Stanley and Steven become regulars?
Will Cripps play a fair bit?
Can Heyne and Lynch put pressure on Gamble and Mini?
Will Big Mac still get a game with the new rules?
Can Simpkin put the heat on Blake and Dawson?

Thoughts?

i doubt that heyne will put much pressure on, he's been in the best at sandy twice this year, thats pretty horrible but i imagine steven will be a regular, simkin and lynch will get a go and winmar is still a bit off imo

none of the above.

unless the team is hit by a long list of injuries, lyon will be too conservative to promote any of them.

Pretty dumb question before training has even started.

They'll be judged on form and promoted/demoted accordingly, one would hope. Same goes for the incumbents.

that hasn't happened to date...imho.....and if it had......ball, and miles would still be with the club, a couple of nuffies long gone....and steven and ammo would have had more games under their belts.....

Yes...lets wait till the NAB....

Who will have a big pre-season...and who has an injury interrupted one.

Who will have a mental "awakening" over summer and come back with increased "hunger" and ready to step up...and who not.

Who will be our Gwilt of 2011....I am hoping who will be our Gwilts

We have a good crop of potentials....but potential is just that until some arrives.

May several do in it 2011...as we need that extra leg-up.

I think that Kosi will have a solid year as second ruck and that Lynch will establish his spot forward in a new look forward line. Steven may get a regular gig in the midfield rotation along with Polo and Cripps, Winmar will be a regular across HB by seasons end.

Completely unfounded hopes, but its good to be positive in November, makes the summer better IMO.

Maybe this year?

I actually think McEvoy, Lynch, Stanley and Heyne will make a mark this year.
Steven and Armo I'm not sure about.

Not knowing anything about the new kids, I'll reserve judgement on them.

I've got a felling (based on nothing but a hunch) that Al Smith might be a real 'find' next year.

He followed a great pre-season with a really solid season at VFL level, and I just think he's going to step up again next year.

Armo, Steven and Smith are the ones who I think could really step it up next year. Heyne needs to show something or he's gone, Lynch needs to push for selection. Stanley should just play 5-10 games again and develop. McEvoy better hope for Gardiner to break down.

Steven, Heyne, Geary, Stanley, Walsh.

Who knows, but one thing is certain. Anyone given a chance will have to grab it with both hands because spots are going to be at a premium. And that's a very healthy situation

History suggests only one or two will become regulars in one season. Steven to me looks by far the most likely. Unlucky with injury this year so with a bit of luck should see him basically make it. The only others that to me are a chance are Stanley, Lynch and Smith but only one at the most will play over 10 games.

A bit harsh. I don't know how training form is going to help. My tip is that by the start of March all the young guys will be "training the house down" and we'll be none the wiser.

Armo, Steven and Stanley are most likely candidates imo.
I would have added Miles but he's seemingly out. I would have added Eddy too.
Not much mention of Geary; should be a deciding year for him?
Smith and Simpkin should get a look in at some point.

I wonder if Paul Cahill will reward the club for the patience they've shown him?

Hopefully all of them !

Post: # 1025309Post WinnersOnly »

Hopefully they will all show signifant improvement. I would like to see -

Clarke or Lynch to release Glibert/Fisher.

Armitage or Stevens to replace McQualter.

Gamble or Heyne to replace Eddy.

Walsh or Stanley to replace Kosi at FF.

Winmar or Smith to replace Peake.

Kosi replace 2nd Ruck.

Lynch or Simpkin to pressure Blake & Dempster.

McEvoy or Stanley to pressure Gardiner.

Polo or Cripps to pressure Baker.

Smith or Armitage to pressure Ray.

I see smith and simpkin as the big movers.

but yeah ross is incredibly conservative and doesnt have a development bone in his body. has not bought a single kid through in his time. some people are trying to claim gwilt - but he had already played senior footy when lyon arrived.

but id say simpkin should/will play 20 games which leaves ever-reliable blakey in trouble in the 22 IMO.
