St Kilda guernsey sponsors across the years

Post: # 1019318Post snowdelisaint »

Well, I'm a bit bored and further to the "the Draft can't come soon enough" thread thought I would compile a list here.

The list is of the main jumper sponsors of the Saints as far back as jumpers have had sponsors on the crest side of the guernsey. This may also be of interest to jumper collectors. Anyone got the set?

I guess we are a bit unusual in having had so many different sponsors (as opposed to say Geelong or Adelaide).

I'll start the list with the ones I can remember off the top of my head and you guys can fill the gaps:

2010: Jeld-wen
2009: Jeld-wen
2008: Jeld-wen
2007: Bill Express (home) Vodafone (away)
2006: Bill Express
2005: Bill Express
2004: Mortgage House
2003: Mortgage House
2002: Mortgage House (Home) Strathfield (Away)
2001: Pura Milk
2000: Pura Milk
1999: Pura Milk
1998: Tooheys Victoria
1997: Tooheys
1996: Tooheys
1995: Tooheys
1994: Tooheys
1993: Tooheys
1992: Philip Morris
1991: Philip Morris
1990: Philip Morris
1989: Snowdeli
1988: Snowdeli
1987: Snowdeli
1986: Hugall & Hoile
1985: Valentine Greetings
1984: Valentine Greetings
1983: Valentine Greetings
1982: Valentine Greetings
1981: N/A
1980: International Harvester? or N/A?
1979: N/A

I had a jumper with International Harvester on it when I was a kid.

Not sure of the year. Very early 80s.

Vodaphone were a co-major sponsor with the saints for one season, 2007 I think.

It was supposed to be a two year sponsorship deal but because Luke Ball had his own Telstra sponsorship they pulled out after one year. Bloody Luke ball, nothing but trouble.

Yeah I know vodafone was across the back of the jumpers some of the time that Bill Express was on the front, but don't think Vodafone was ever on the front (?)

It was the same with Strathfield in 2002. Trying to think who the other sponsor at the time was.

They switched for the away guernsey.

WOW! Look what I just found!

Image

Image is from launch of Jeldwen sponsorship in December 2007, they must have changed their mind and gone with the full word. Incidentally the article also says it was a 3 year deal, which means it ends now. Do we know if they will be guernsey sponsors next year?

Those terrible jumpers that everyone cracked it about saying how the white panel looked atrocious.

I see the cuffs are all white like we went this season though.

You wouldn't be able to start a thread like this on other forums. It's not news, and is something which could start a debate.

My brother tells me the jumper was bought in 1980.

Do you know if the team wore the International Harvester patch on matchdays.. the earliest matchday jumper sponsor I can find is Valentine Greetings.

I couldn't say for sure. I think so...

Do we need a footy card collector to go through their collection and have a look at the jumpers each year?

I've been looking at images of the cards on eBay. The images of course feature photos from the season before, i.e. 1982 cards have images taken in 1981. Before Valentine, they seem to have been without sponsor patches.

Eg, Scanlens 1982:

Maybe early 1980s footy records would be useful.

The away jumper of 2002 had Strathfield on the front as well, (with Mortgage house on the back).

I have that card somewhere. How much are they asking for on eBay?
