The Great (and Crap) Thing About Aussie Rules Football is...

Post: # 1008334Post marksnsparks »

it never stands still.

We have spent so much time working out how to beat Geelong over the last 2 years, we didn't see the Pies skip past us.

1. If we need to learn one thing from this year, is we need to constantly keep developing our game plan. Ask Hawthorn.

2. Keeping on top of innovations in conditioning is crucial. Pies have had two pre-season at high altitude, and now they are fitter and harder than us.

3. Big slow plodders are a thing of the past. Kosi's only chance of surviving in today's AFL is as a ruckman. I thought him and Blake worked really well last week. McEvoy has lost currency with me now. Maybe GT was right after all. The future is slightly smaller, faster ruckmen.

4. Tall forwards need to have the tank of Riewoldt, or the pace of Stanley.

5. Those saying dump Peake are dreaming. We need more of his type. Pace to burn. Skills can be tought, tanks can be developed (see 2). Pace is genetic.

I do think Ross is the guy to deliver a premiership though. He has done a fantastic job with a shallow list of guns and tons of GOPs. I still rember being told our window was closing after 2005! Unfortunately it may take 10 years like it did for Thompson and Malthouse...

Yes those 4 effective kicks he had this week on the back of the 3 effective kicks he had last week really cut the Pies to ribbons.

Peake has 'pace to burn'? Really? How often have we seen him deliver those 'break the lines' runs this year? His disposal by foot is ordinary, too. Granted his game against Geelong in the QF was his best for the club where he actually took a couple of contested grabs but if he represents the future of this club - and so too McQualter- then we're in for some lean years ahead.

I found this article interesting when read earlier
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/p ... 16236.html

and in light of Didak mentioning the' medical' intervention he had to be able to play
when if ever will the AFL look at what and how much is" injected' to allow play...?

I noted the number of support staff Collingwood had in field post game and have heard that Hawthorn have run out of options to spend money on inregards to staff...
a Cap on off field football / medical department staff has been thrown around before

something the saints have managed to do- as alluded by Ross last night is now they have the football department at mainly full strength - they are beginning to put more into other club areas- ie media, and business- the number of staff in these areas has increased markedly....

the core business was supported first- Football
then comes the rest..

I thought the pies had used altitude for more than 2 years------
