Anyone feel the game was lost when Riewoldt missed from 2cm?

Post: # 1007257Post ralphsmith »

It just was a horrible moment. Bang that goal in and the tide turns.

I was off my chair cheering a goal when he marked it. 1 out of 100 times he would miss or get it smothered.

Damn, so much strangeness today.

No, but man did heads drop and Collingwood grow an extra leg. It cost us enormously.

that wouldve brought the game back... instead they run it down and kick a goal... too many easy easy shots missed

schnieder on the half time sirent.... all 3 of gilberts in 2nd... both of riewoldts in the first... the mark that bounced off milnes chest...

thats 6 easy shots at goal for 0.6 and milne just got rebounded

then you can add the one that schnieder ran through then kicked off side of boot and went straight to collingwood defenders.... so theres 8 in the first half that shouldve been goals....

we killed ourselves.. you cant win a game with 1 goal 8 points at half time... (and 2-3 non goals)

Yep, it was the most significant turning point in the match.

Was actually poor judgement from Roo to play on when he could have gone back and had a set shot from 10m. It turned the game.

Yep

For a moment I though I was watching Kosi!!

Did anyone talk in that game? I am gob smacked by the number of short handpasses and short kicks.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

It was a really bad sign that it was not going to be our day. What the hell was he doing?

I'm gutted like everyone else and I just don't know where the club goes from here.

I knew from that moment that we weren't going to win.

Luck was not on our side

Hopefully it's not down the ladder as the teams that have already reloaded begin their ascent.....

Yes I must admit that I thought that hugely costly.....for Roos confidence,,,and for the team.

Just seemed to set the pattern for the day.

Hurts more because I love him.

Unfortunately...yes. Without a doubt. In a room full of neutrals and 2 Collingwood supporters, I was laughed out of the place and had no comeback...Roo was in front of 100k people, imagine how confidence sapping it would have been. Terrible effort.

I don't understand even now why he played on. Its a Grand Final, it does no matter if you are 2 cm's from the goal line. You go back and kick the ball thru the sticks.

Very un-riewoldt like, I could have killed him at the time. I was sitting right next to where the Collingwood allocation of supporters started in the GSS.
They were standing up and calling him all kinds of names.

Horrible Horrible Horrible

The play was totally against us. Roo needed to take a step back, use up a minute and halt their momentum. Why was he in a rush?

:(

I knew things were going rather badly at that point. They never improved.

Why the rush?

We were up, cheering a certain goal...we could see and hear the huge roar from the Saints cheer squad (I was at the other end). A great moment!

Alas we came back down to earth very quickly...I had no idea what had happened.
I agree, had he nailed that goal, we would have had the momentum.

I remember saying this at time....my heart just sank and I felt it was a terrible omen for the game.....turned out to be true.

Horrible error from the captain.

For me, the two missed goals from that man again SCHNEIDER either side of half time were the turning points. Yes, we ended up getting belted, but those two go through and suddenly the boys are 15 points down 1 minute into the 3rd quarter and last weeks demons come back for the Pies.

He misses both (very gettable - that's what he is there for) and the game disappears.

Whilst Gilbert's points were very costly also, we need to remember he is a backman who struggles to hit the side of a shed from 25m at the best of times. Schneider is there to kick goals, particualrly at vital times.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

Luck had nothing to do with it. Riewoldt like Kosi doesn't have a football brain, never has. Kosi is a comical figure on the football field, absolutely pathetic and has been for years.

I must also agree that that particular kick from Roo really did seem to set the scene. I gather he was trying to set the momentum. fire up the crowd, fire up the team. But a complete lack of awareness and a bad choice.

I wish i hadnt of read this thread- I am distraught enough, but remembering that articular incident :(

Just like Schneider's miss in the opening quarter of the 09 grand final.

Missing those absolute sodas is bad karma.
