Draft Camp. Who's going ? !!

Post: # 1003080Post Eastern »

Draft Camp starts today/tonight with a Dinner at the AIS in Canberra. All the real stuff starts tomorrow and continues through Thursday and concludes on Friday.

I can see us in a bit of a bind here; All our coaching staff will be very busy preparing for Saturday. Our List Manager, Matthew Drain is finishing up this week. So, who attends and interviews prospective draftees etc? I suppose we will need to leave everything in the hands of John Peake and possibly John Beveridge. Maybe Harvs could help out, along with Andrew Thompson.

I know that we have had 4 or 5 of our people attend in the past but this is a fairly unique year. Will Ross have enough time to jump on a plane tomorrow or Thursday? !!

If only we could pick Sam Day.

GC have already committed to him, he's got BJ written all over him, and these are the players of the future.

If someone can play two or more roles at an elite level, they are worth their weight in gold.

Pavlich, Goddard, Goodes, Hodge are the four best imo (In no particular order) .

All those player descriptions make them all out to be future superstars.

Just once I'd like to read something like this:
Luke Parker (Dandenong Stingrays, Vic)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 25/10/92
Medium-sized midfielder, slow, poor endurance, weak on the opposite foot... weak on both feet really, not sure what he's doing here to be honest.

No Jack Sketcher who won the Morrish medal? Did the All Australian selectors pick these kids?

No the clubs did. Sketcher will go to the state screening. May be rookied but doubt he will go in the main draft. Very small.

5 10 I think, I only throw his name up because I saw him play in a reerves GF in the Southern 2nd division as a 15 year old and he got the medal for best on ground.

I know what you mean Beej.

It's like I've never known a bad person to be killed.

For example, the Underbelly Gangster type "he was a wonderful family man who would give you shirt off his back blah, blah, blah....."

Or the dopehead drunken kid who kills all his mates in a car crash "he was a great kid, wonderful student, loved by everyone blah, blah, blah...."

I suppose the lesson to be learned is to be an asshole and you'll live forever!

Jed Lamb sounds like a likely type, every time I heard results from the state carnival he seemed to be named in the best and kick a couple. Medium forward would be handy, as would a pacy mid.

Maybe this year?

I love some of the phrases we use as AFL fans to talk about footballers...

"likely type"

"love the way he goes about it"

Surely there are more...

Always wondered what a "student of the game" was?

I think it's just somebody who has great knowledge of the game, its history and also appreciates the intricate details of the game, almost as if they study it.

Jed will be gone by the time we have our first pick, bank on it.

Odds are we will have to be very lucky to get a quality player in the next couple of drafts.

maybe a couple of GOPs at best.

Woulnd't mind picking Charlie Riewoldt just for his name...He has kicked a few this season too.
Get him to the club whilst Roo is there and he can show him how to go about it and how to live up to the name.
