Cats coach Mark Thompson expected to resign today

Post: # 1002792Post mohannair »

Mark Thomson is having a meeting with Geelong officials as we speak. Expected to resign any time. Geelong in chaos with Gazza also set to go anytime next week.

Pencil in a Saints v/s Pies G.F. next year also.

A week is along time in football, let alone a year.

Who would have picked the Pies improving so much in 2010?

Hawks could could go up or down. Tarrant at FB may help them.

Freo have lots of young players who may improve next year.

Dogs will lose a batch of oldies...but young players may step up.

Cats under a new coach may revitalise them, as it wil be easier for them to change gameplans, anda new coach will be freer to cut adrif t some of the older players who Bomber would probably have kept, but who would have held them back.

That Geelong press conference is a 3:00PM.

Try as they may Geelong can not rain on our premiership parade.

I can say with unequivocal confidence that your someone is absolutely wrong.

Lastest report is Geelong are calling the presser to announce that Thompson is NOT going to Essendon as reported earlier.

Conflicting news everywhere!

Just to remind everyone that it is the week after the Grand Final, all the other things that happen after the season have not been moved back a week, so this may be the most unusual GF week ever. Delistings, players wanting to move, coaches being hired and fired, and all manner of things.

On top of all that: Pies. Saints. For all the chocolates.

A press conference to announce nothing is changing? I doubt that....surely a media release would have been sent out instead

MMM is the source I got for that report.

From their Facebook page;

Triple M Footy Triple M Footy believes that at the 3pm presser today Brian Cook and Neil Balme will announce that Bomber Thompson is definitely NOT going to Essendon. Stay tuned!

I heard the same rumour as you, I just find it hard to believe. Seems very strange to hold a press conference just to deny the coach is leaving.

I guess it's more a stand to back Thompson and to show their members that they have their full support behind him etc.

Just sending out a media release may not be enough to get everyone off their case.

I dunno, I like the idea of one of the clubs calling a press conference just to say hi.

I'm not sure it would be wise, the media's a fickle beastie, not prone to forgiveness when their fallibility is pointed out... but, especially given the speculation both on Gablett and Bomber, Geelong's the perfect club to do it.

I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who would enjoy the red faces after it turned out that Damien Barrett/Craig Hutchison/Hamish McGloughlin had once again made something up from whole cloth (i.e. to answer the question of "why the press conference? Couldn't possibly wait till then to find out why it's on...).

Is AWOL...

If not for his two flags would have been sacked today.

They are waiting for him to resign...if not will be sacked as no longer being committed enough.

They will also go easy as they will be concerned about "depression" issue.

But bookmark it. Bomber will not be the Cats Coach in 2011.

And your point is?????

Personally even if Bomber was 100% still mentally there it is time for a change as he already had indicated it was his last year. Time for a new coach to clean out their older players and institute a new gameplan.

But better for Saints if he stays.

Will stuff up their trade week a bit as cats have some big calls to make right now on who to delist, who to trade etc.
