Post: # 991886Post bigred »

I'm in a similar position.

Never done standing room before.

Is it as bad as it sounds? haha

Had standing room last year, centre wing under the AFL members.

Got there with Saints66au at 8.25 am and got up against the fence that divides SR from seats. Saved room for the 6 others we were with and took turns minding the spots.

Was a long day but we didn't get wet and had a great view.

Probably need to get there when gates open to stake your claim.

On your ticket it will tell you what area you are in. You can only stand in the area on your ticket.

You aren't allowed to take anything with you that constitutes a seat eg: esky, fold up chair etc.

Some people had a fairly good view and others did not. Most people in standing room were surrounded by ok and decent people, letting the kids and short people up the front.

If you are there early and stake your claim, just find an empty seat and cool your heels until it is time to stand up.

Other than grow 20 cms, don't drink too much if you get a good spot early.

I had a standing room ticket for the '66 GF in the old Southern Stand. Being about 150 cms tall at the time, I would not have seen much. Luckily, my dad, who had one seat (bench seats in those days) was able to prevail on the guy next to him to give him his seat ticket stub to allow me to squeeze in. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Good viewing, and may history repeat itself.

If we win the standing room will be better than any seat you had last year.

I've been issued with standing room and would be happy to join fans like Red.

Matrix, I had an excellent seat last year as well.

Anyway, it's a good opportunity for us die hards to get together and try and match the noise that'll be made by the Filth Army.

It could be restricted view or standing Matrix, although the amount would be $142.50, not 148.50. Standard is $161.00

Did standing last year. My preference is to do Standing these days,I reckon there is more atmosphere....and I can yell louder when I stand, and can move around a bit when it's tense!

There are two different standing areas. One is flat concrete, and the other is on elevated steps.
Last years Grand Final we stood on the flat in the fwd pocket great southern stand. If you are not on the fence,or tall this is a bit of a head ache, trying to dodge around people to get a view when it's down your end. We didn't line up early,so we stood about 3 deep. Standing areas go about 2-4 deep

On the elevated steps standing area, you can see the entire ground, and the atmosphere is 2nd to none. However you don't get complete views of the goalposts,so high kicks at goal your relying on the crowds roar,or the tv screen

Do you mean there are two different TYPES of standing rooms, or there is actually only two standing rooms in the entire ground?

Bloody hope I'm in the second on you described haha.

Would be more than happy to meet up with folks in the designated area first thing...and save your spot etc so you can actually have a reasonable morning...

Are you sure matrix. The standing room/restricted view amount is $142.50.
Standard $161. Your $148 doesn't sound right.

Yeah f****** $142

I'm actually not all that happy with it. I know I am ridiculously lucky to get a ticket, but I cant help but think how s*** it is to get standing room.

Went with a mate to the 2004 G.F. Had standing room tickets and being about 50 y.o at the time wasnt overly excited. Admittedly I had no passion for either side (Lions v Port) but had a ripper of a day. Thoroughly enjoyed it, took me back to the finals with my old man in the 60s and early 70s where we always stood.

The one thing standing has over seats is the atmosphere, absolutely fantastic. All the real characters seem to be in standing.

I know there will be feral Collingwood supporters in there by the bucketload, but stand with your Saint mates and you'll have a great day

lol matrix.

I couldn't live with myself if we won.

I got my football education standing on empty VB cans @ Moorabbin. I reckon I can handle one day on my feet.
