Geelong 2009

Post: # 965341Post dcstkfc »

Won 4 games between round 14 and 21 last year- three of those wins by a total of 8 points, and the other at home to Melbourne

Not saying I'm confident at the moment, or that there aren't genuine problems but there's a long way to go.

Flags are won in September.

Geelong had that belief that only comes from winning a premiership.

Our players would still be at the stage where they have lingering doubts over whether they can actually do it or not.

I believe we need to hit the finals in good form to win a flag because the MCG in September is a difficult place to be trying to find it.

Didn't Hawthorn lose a few in their last few H&A games of 2008?

Geelong still beat opposition they should beat. They got thrashed once, 40 odd points by the Lions and half their line-up was being rested. They were comfortably beaten by the Blues, but they were in the top eight. Otherwise, they were still beating opposition they should beat.

Lost Rd 16, 17 and 20, same as Brisbane in 2003.

West Coast lost by 57 points to Freo in Rd 21 2006 and won the flag.

Port lost to Essendon by 40 points in Round 18 2004 and won the flag.

There is some precedent, although you could definitely also draw parallels with Adelaide 2006, Bulldogs 2008, and of course St Kilda 1998

Don't like our "easy" run home either. Not good preparation for finals.
