Eight weeks for Bakes

Post: # 947980Post Waltzing St Kilda »

Just going on the existing precedents:

2003: Flat on his back in the centre of the ground, Baker has his foot stood on by Essendon ruckman Steve Alessio. To dislodge Alessio, Baker gives him a harmless kick in the ankle. Result: 3 weeks suspension. Even Mike Sheahan said it was the most absured penalty he'd ever seen. (It was later reduced to one week.)

2005: Greg Stafford cleans up Brendon Goddard at the MCG -- a head-over-ball incident that would probably get weeks today. Goddard is taken from the ground semi-conscious. Baker comes in to remonstrate with Stafford, gives him the mildest of jumper-punches. Result: Baker 2 or 3 weeks suspension, Stafford clear.

2007: Baker cleans up Jeff Farmer in an incident seen by no one and caught on no cameras. (Compare to David Hille's recent clashes.) At the tribunal, Baker foolishly admits that he actually made contact. Result: 7 weeks.

Correction - Baker actually got done for an 'attempted jumper punch' on Stafford.

The inconsistency is mind boggling.

I've come to roll with it now.

It's an absurd lottery. Just is. That's that.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

We are the highest profile team with the least clout.

They always make an example of us...

Imagine it was a Collingwood player that had been whacked like Baker was...

Good ol uncle Mick would have been whinging in the post match conference, the filth would have been calling for the firing squad.

Unfortunately imo Baker is guaranteed weeks, again to make an example of us.

They'll book him for that punch, and then let Mooney off for an almost identical punch.

They might even let Johnson off because you couldn't actually see the contact.

I don't agree with it but it is really that random this year.

There is so much going on about Bakes' slapping the Geelong player's hand... and even people saying new laws should be brought in to punish that kind of behaviour. But I don't recall that kind of a drive for punishment after the Brisbane players (Mal Michael and someone else) hit Roo's broken collarbone - do you?

When you take the field you're 100% fit!...
SJ couln't handle a bit of niggle?.......

Then you have Ling coming out saying it's not netball and the umpires should let more stuff go.......

I guess he meant let the Cats get away with stuff but punish anyone else who tries their tactics?

I'm loving the whining Hypocrisy coming out of Sleepy Hollow since Friday night...

Bomber needs to dish out a few servings of cement so his boys can Harden the F*** up!... He should start with a big dose for himself.

Its sad but with SJ likely to miss up to six weeks with a broken hand he will get a lengthy suspensin (4 weeks?) because
A it does not matter
B It gives the AFL a chance to go hard on poor abkes

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf" 

They owe Bakes for previous RIDICULOUS decisions. The ban for 2 weeks for attempting to punch was the all time greatest stuff by the Tribunal.

Bakes in the clear
SJ 3 weeks.
