Joey - Charged With Tripping Des Headland

Post: # 909293Post Dal_Santos_Gal »

Saints just posted this up on facebook

The AFL has just announced that Leigh Montagna, has been charged with tripping Des Headland, Fremantle, during the fourth quarter of the Round Four match between St Kilda and Fremantle, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday April 18, 2010. In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea.

I have seen the replay of that, there was nothing in it.
Gees, can we charge Vosso for all the wrong decisions he made last night because he is a shocker

I didn't think there was either, and neither did those in the commentary, but if he's been reported, you'd think there would have to be something in it. Maybe a different camera angle showed something different.

Haha what a joke.

I've seen the incident. Nothing to worry about here.

Surely we have nothing to worry about, he was clearly going for a shepherd and didn't realise how far away he was...

I don't think we should take the early plea, I think if we challenge it he'd get away without any points...

This, and yet an utterly loose thug like Hall attacks the head of an opponent with a closed fist and nothing happens. Sure, it was just a love tap...But ya gotta wonder...I mean if the MRP's calling up innocuous incidents and all... I'm really at a bit of a loss with this whole MRP thing now. It just seems so bloody random.

There should be a MRP & Tribunal for umpires, they review the games and fine the umpires for the big mistakes that they make, not the little ones where they miss something small, but big ones like the in the back for Freo given last night, then within minutes exact same thing happened to St Kilda and they paid Freo the tackle. If the AFL have to make players accountable for their mistakes, then why not make umpires accountable for theirs too.

There should be a rule against Ray Chamberlain....can't think of any reason why other than him being Ray Chamberlain

When do the players get dragged by the AFL for missing a target and how do you know umpires arent held accountable for their mistakes?

The umpires do get dropped from time to time.

If they were sent to the desert for a few weeks and made to fend for themselves ala Bear Grillis now that would be a decent penalty!

There were about three incidents where our players were tackled below the knees.
One particularly platant one against Milne.

No frees !

Quite clearly grabbed his foot and held on.

Take the reprimand.

I am still coming to terms with McFlee's "mark" on the boundary in the final quarter. If that was 'controlled' and if any umpire can be firm that was a mark, then that umpire is a wasted resource....the little league plays at half time and I doubt anyone at that time would have paid such an attempt.

Don't know where I said players get dragged by the AFL for missing a target, I think I said for making a mistake i.e. accidental high contact. Do you know if umpires are held accountable for their mistakes? I've only known 1 umpire who got dropped for a little while for calling a point a goal, apart from that I only ever hear AFL come out in defence of umpires.

1 camera angle looked like Joey was just wrong footed, another angle looks like he tripped him throwing his leg out.

Was the trip by hand or foot, seems to be two different incidents being discussed here?

Maybe this year?

Joey put the foot out, Bakes grabbed McPhee's foot in mid air.

This thread is about the Joey one.

The one people might be confusing this incident with was Steven Baker on McPhee in the first quarter. I think his tackle slipped and he got McPhee's foot. No free kick given to McPhee at the time too.

I reckon he simply lunged to try to make body contact, mistimed it completely and if anything should be fined by his teammates for looking really ridiculous.

Would be astounded if there as any intent.

Yeah, looked pretty blatant to me.

Not overly aggressive, but pretty clearly intentional.
