swans mystified that dawson escaped charges

SYDNEY Swans coach Paul Roos is surprised by the match review panel’s failure to charge St Kilda’s Zac Dawson after a collision that left Tadhg Kennelly with concussion on Saturday night.

Kennelly had to be helped from the field late in the game after being hit by Dawson from behind in a marking contest. He vomited after the match and was still suffering headaches on Sunday morning.

An example of negligent contact may be where a player collides
with another player who has taken a mark and where contact
occurs just after the mark has been taken. The offending player
has a duty of care to avoid any contact which would constitute
a reportable offence by slowing his momentum as much as he
reasonably can and a failure to do so constitutes negligent.

In the example given under negligent above, if a player
collides with another player who has marked the ball, in
circumstances where there is some further time after the mark
has been taken, and where he blindly continued on, to contact
the player taking the mark, then the act would best be described
as reckless.
First, the MRP would have to over rule the umpire and deem the mark to have been completed.
I believe the umpire was wrong and the mark completed.

Second, the MRP would have to deem that Dawson could have pulled out once the mark was taken.

Third that Dawson's intent was to collide, which he did, but only after he punched the ball which would seem to be his first intent.

Lucky the umpire got the call wrong and that he hit the ball and not the head first.

Contest being the word, one trying to mark, other trying to punch ,nothing in it.Maybe Roos wants to take the contest out of the game,at least zac made contact with the ball, unlike Hille.

This is ironic! Paul Roos is wondering how Zac Dawson didn't cited? Well why wasn't he mystified how Barry Hall got off and played in a grand final after he belted Matt Maquire and then played in a premiership?
You can cop it when it suits you Sydney and Roos, but cry and whine like babies when it goes the other way! Stick that up ya!

There seems to be a whole new set of rules too.

Once upon a time players and clubs tried to get their opponents off charges, then it became "just tell the truth". Now we have a couple of examples already from Melbourne and Sydney where clubs are crying that opposition players should be cited.

Wha has happened to a code of ethics, football is a contact sport, sometimes you will get hurt. Suck it up.

I used to like Paul Roos but it seems that since the Swans have stopped being a top 4 side he's becoming a big sook. I'll cop Kosi getting weeks but if Dawson had been suspended we might as well pull out the bibs and play netball.

I'm mystified

I am mystified as to how the Swans get away with throwing the ball so often. The telecast last Saturday night showed this on so many occasions it was not funny. What does everyone else think?

Even my wife picked that up. Do they train that way?

I think Roos oughta return to being the humble, interesting, thoughtful bloke he used to be.

He's becoming a real big mouthed whinger.

29-18 free count in his favour, any number of throws unpaid, any number of jumper pulls and back pushes unpaid...FFS...

Maybe he shoulda given it away...

As to incident in question...IMO If the mark had been paid, Dawson would have been cited. IMO he would have got off. Absolutely no malice in the act. Eyes only for the ball and contact was incidental to the primary action which was to spoil.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Perhaps Roosey's trying to avoid media scrutiny over his dummy spit by throwing up a smoke screen.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Spot on, next you wont be allowed to chase people incase they do a hamstring?

FFS, I can see how Kosi got done, although I think 3 weeks is stiff. But come on, Dawson was a good spoil, eyes on the ball doing his job.

Has B. Harvey been given weeks for his blatant punch?

That is truly mystifying!
