Did Nick get a free?
Here is a pic from The Age today (at least the electronic version) advertising their tipping comp. One player has his eyes on the ball and two opposition players do not, both illegally interfering with Nick. Did he get a free?

yes, you can see its at the MCG. the only times i remember playing the cats at the G were GF this year and the final last year, but we were wearing the white shorts last year, so it has to be this years photobigcarl wrote:is that shot from the grand final?
and who cares if he get a free or not? we are still crying about that game even though a new year has started?

so you can beat st kilda by putting two guys on riewoldt using whatever dirty, scragging tactics you can get away with. their other forwards are brittle under pressure etc, etc and can't kick goals when it counts.
this over-reliance on our superstar is something we're going to have to fix this season to improve.
btw dools, why are you using a picture of a female collingwood supporter as your avatar? or is it actually joffa in drag?

Re: Did Nick get a free?
I think you make an excellent point and I don't think it is an issue of crying about a GF. Why does a media organisation use a pic showing illegal contact to promote a product? They might as well show Staker at the point of contact with Barry's fist. Sometimes these marketing people......almost as bad as that stupid platypus bank.perfectionist wrote:Here is a pic from The Age today (at least the electronic version) advertising their tipping comp. Agree. fancy showing one of the stars of the game going for a mark under pressure and in an instant there may be illegal contact. maybe umpires should take a photo of every incident. That would be great. We may not have time to play much and there would be at least 500 frees in a game but wouldnt it make it a cleaner game.Milan Faletic wrote:I think you make an excellent point and I don't think it is an issue of crying about a GF. Luckily they never used the Leo Barry mark for any advertising.
I suggest this thread is a joke but if it isnt then people need to grow up. The game is over and you need to get over it.

The saints player would have been pinged for blocking and scarlett would have received a free.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:the thing i want to know is where was the saints player putting the block on Scarlett ? where was the crumber to pick up the loose ball ??
plugger66 we'll be talking about this loss for the next 10 years.
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.
Maybe so but to suggest we should have got a free because of the evidence of a still photo seems a real stretch.ralphsmith wrote:The saints player would have been pinged for blocking and scarlett would have received a free.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:the thing i want to know is where was the saints player putting the block on Scarlett ? where was the crumber to pick up the loose ball ??

So you advocate the deliberate breaking of the rules?plugger66 wrote:Maybe so but to suggest we should have got a free because of the evidence of a still photo seems a real stretch.ralphsmith wrote:The saints player would have been pinged for blocking and scarlett would have received a free.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:the thing i want to know is where was the saints player putting the block on Scarlett ? where was the crumber to pick up the loose ball ??

Fair Enough, as long as we know where you stand on issues such as these.
Lance or James??

When did i say that. Do advocate we take still photos at games to decide if it is a free or not?joffaboy wrote:So you advocate the deliberate breaking of the rules?plugger66 wrote:Maybe so but to suggest we should have got a free because of the evidence of a still photo seems a real stretch.ralphsmith wrote:The saints player would have been pinged for blocking and scarlett would have received a free.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:the thing i want to know is where was the saints player putting the block on Scarlett ? where was the crumber to pick up the loose ball ??

Fair enough as long as you are prepared for a 12 hour game.

Re: Did Nick get a free?
Umpire Ryan grew up supporting Geelong as a kid, still a kid at heart obviously!perfectionist wrote:
This incident happened in the last quarter and in the goalsquare, Scarlett no eyes for the football just crashes into Riewoldt while Taylor has a hand on his shoulder,
adjudication from Ryan, play on!
Schnieder has his jumper almost pulled of with Ryan standing five metres away with a perfect unobstructed view of the incident,
adjudication from Ryan, play on!
It's very obvious what has happened here, all passed off as the umpires put the whistle away when in truth what we have is a Geelong supporter not paying obvious free kicks to St kilda players in goal scoring positions!

In that case, I definately advocate several five minute multi-ball power plays to spice the game up a bit...if I'm going to have to sit through 12 hours, I wanna see some pazzaz (fireworks, half-time entertainment and wider goals are a great idea too). Of course, the namby pamby ALFPA will probably want less games per season.plugger66 wrote:When did i say that. Maybe Schnieds should have clapped his hands, just so Ryan remembered him next infringement?barks4eva wrote:It's very obvious what has happened here, all passed off as the umpires put the whistle away when in truth what we have is a Geelong supporter not paying obvious free kicks to St kilda players in goal scoring positions!

Re: Did Nick get a free?
I am over the game and have been one of the people who have pushing that line all along. My objection is the just the fact The Age use an illegal contest to promote an AFL product. I couldn't care less which teams are involved in that pic, they are not showing our game in its best light. What about showing a great mark?bigcarl wrote:correct. we need to learn from it and move on.plugger66 wrote:I suggest this thread is a joke but if it isnt then people need to grow up. My question was, did he receive a free? If this picture comes from the GF (and from what other posters have said, it does) then, to answer my own question, I had no alternative but to look up the stats of "that match", something I have not done until now. Nick did not receive any frees at all on the day. So the answer must be NO.
We have all heard supporters from every other club say that Nick is "protected", and to be fair, much in the same way as (say) Gary Ablett is referred to by some Saints supporters. On the other hand, he did get frees on GF day, three in fact, more than any other Geelong player. No doubt he deserved them.
I always find it somewhat amusing, that some who say that a particular thread is a complete waste of time, or should not exist at all, feel compelled to comment in it on numerous occasions. C'est la Vie!

yes, it's a good point. the age can justify it on the grounds that it is a great action photograph. if the afl were using it to promote something you could really have some fun with it.Milan Faletic wrote:My objection is the fact The Age use an illegal contest to promote an AFL product.

Yes Ablett received a free kick for a slight holding of the jumper and kicked a goal from it.perfectionist wrote:My question was, did he receive a free? In the last quarter Schnieder has his jumper pulled off to the point where it was almost in the Richmond Social Club with Ryan standing five metres away in perfect position and no free kick.
Also in the last quarter, the pic of Riewoldt clearly shows him getting manhandled from two players and again Umpire Shaun ( I have supported Geelong all my life ) Ryan calls play on!
Can someone find out who the goal umpire supported as a child?
